On my #cycling trip today I saw these #spoonbills near Voorschoten, the Netherlands. Actually it was closer to the A4 highway. A while ago I didn't even know the Netherlands had spoonbills. But there you go. Also I went to the coast near Wassenaar and Katwijk.

Good news story.
Despite being a familiar sight during the 16th century, not a single Spoonbill bred successfully in the UK for over 300 years. Now they're back for another successful year, with birds breeding at multiple RSPB reserves across the UK, showing how habitat management plays a vital role in nature conservation.

"Once quite common in the UK, spoonbills were occasionally seen on their migratory journey, but no longer bred here because they were hunted for their meat and the wetland habitats in which they use their long beaks to fish for prey had been destroyed. But #conservation efforts mean they have come back and are now breeding happily in a few pockets of habitat in England."
Took advantage of today's great weather to spend a few hours at #WWT #Llanelli. Pictured are;
