Unless things have changed recently, SimpleX is no where near as flexible when using multi-device, multi-platform setups.

Having a second device requires the two devices being on the same WiFi network to work at all.

As I said, things may have changed.

I have two mobile phones, 1 laptop and a desktop all synchronised and capable of being used fully independent of each other.

Can you do that with SimpleX?

I also have 5 profiles connected to three independently operated chatmail servers on 3 continents, fully functional from within the one app.

Is this something SimpleX can do?

I was a huge SimpleX fan, been a Session user, suffered through Signal and ditched iMessage years ago.

Delta Chat is simple, flexible, works and I can finally ditch my mobile phone SIM.

Oh, and my non-techie family are happy to use it.

#SimpleX enthält auch Technologie von Signal. SimpleX ist aber dezentral und mit starkem Privatsphärenschutz und .onion-integration (und #Flux) out-of-the-box. Es ist für mich einfach die nächste Evolutionsstufe nach Signal.

Fast niemand verifiziert die Fingerprints. Signal kann einfach MiTM machen bei initialem Kontakt.
Sie hätten ja auch den Fingerprint im den Nutzernamen /QR Code packen können, wie #SimpleX - haben sie aber nicht.

Some of you may have heard of #simplex which likes to elevate itself as "the first messenger without user-ids" ... a goal, similar to ours, of not letting the transport layer know about who talks. Only we are doing it in the email system, fully interoperable with tens of thousands of existing email servers and other #openpgp endpoints. The email system is much more than SMTP/IMAP or even openpgp btw ... there is plenty of room for radical shifts and new takes. We are just starting :)

I got nothing for Signal. I used my brother's phone number but the 6 digit verification number just doesn't come.. He doesn't even know what Signal app is, so I doubt he used his phone number to sign up.

Guess this isn't the day to meddle with Signal. "No Signal" I guess :(

I'mma stick with SimpleX chat. This and the email. I dunno about Matrix+Element though

...gewaltig bergab. Gerichtliche Durchgriffsrechte hat man über die #GDPDR / #DSGVO nicht mehr.
Das alleine schon wäre, bei aller technischen Innovation, für mich schon ein k.o.-Kriterium.

Und warum sollte ich das für eine weitere nicht-FOSS-Lösung risikieren?

Außer der etwas zu Trump-freundlichen Einstellung eines Verwaltungsratsmitglieds & dem nicht-FOSS-Ansatz sehe ich bislang beim schon ziemlich verbreiteten #Threema keine gravierenden Nachteile.

...(Lösungs-)Auswahl nur ein Kriterium.

Bei derart "systemkritischen" Anwendungen ist das "Lieferantenrisiko" m.E. mindestens genauso wichtig. Der #Startup hat es bislang "einfach nicht im Kreuz".

Außerdem ist natürlich der bisherige "Netzwerkeffekt" negativ zu bewerten (zu wenige Installationen).

Hinzu kommt, dass ich ein großes Länderrisiko sehe: seit dem #Brexit ging es mit dem #Datenschutz im #UK...

Was ich meinte, ist dass die Software für einen Massenrollout einfach zu neu ist und für den Einsatz in Organisationen fehlt einfach der Track Reckord.
