Maria Langer | 📝 🎬 ⚒️🛥️<p>Damn! There are coyotes yipping and howling down in the valley and that has set off my neighbors' dogs barking and howling. Not the quiet morning I'm used to. And, of course, I can't let my pups out until I know the coyotes aren't close by. I'm kind of hoping that one comes within BB gun range. A BB in the butt usually chases them off for a good long while. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/RuralLife" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RuralLife</span></a></p>
The Japan Times<p>Fukushima Prefecture is set to launch a public-private partnership initiative to mitigate the outflow of young people that has been a major factor behind population decline and the falling birth rate. <a href="https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/07/14/japan/fukushima-gender-gap-population-decline/?utm_medium=Social&amp;utm_source=mastodon" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/07/</span><span class="invisible">14/japan/fukushima-gender-gap-population-decline/?utm_medium=Social&amp;utm_source=mastodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/japan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>japan</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/fukushima" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fukushima</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/population" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>population</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/women039sissues" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>women039sissues</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/rurallife" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rurallife</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/hyogo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hyogo</span></a></p>

Sitting in the barber shop taking BIL for a haircut. In the chair is a dad of a couple of kids including a lively lad about 8yo rocking a cracking mullet who is delighting in having a dig at Dad whose own mullet is in progress.

Kid: Dad, you look weird!
Dad: You look like someone whose license is already suspended!

Absolute fucken fire. Nuclear option.

In rural Ohio, I live amidst corn and soybean fields, good neighbors, and a conservative culture. The American flag flies proudly on many porches, including mine. But those red ball caps, the ones with MAGA stitched across the front, are common around here. They stir something in me far beyond politics.

There was a "police chase" in my small rural village with a guy on a chair scooter. They essentially kept corralling him around the block until the battery ran out.

We only have one cop and he is part-time during the day and he wasn't about to pull him off that scooter by force while it was driving with his salary, which is less than a fast food grill cook would make. They keep him so we have a police department and mayor's court for the tourist speed trap.

They passed our house twice. Like 18 minutes a part. Not sure how long the "chase" route was. He went right down the middle of the street.

Last time, this guy had a moped. He's a habitual dui'er. He is allowed to walk and ride with someone else. No bikes, mopeds, mini-bikes, golf carts, horses or donkeys and vehicles. I'm not sure if pogo sticks are allowed.🤭

It was funny and pathetic at the same time. #RuralLife
