voxelI recently bought a 3D printer, which for most people is probably a solution looking for a problem to solve. Much like generative AI, I don't think 3DP is particularly useful to most people. But as with genAI, there's a real authorial sense of proprietorship to the outputs for many people. Someone that downloads a model dragon, perhaps scales it a little, and hits print will act as if they've performed some kind of creative act. Just the same as the 'artists' who feel that they've really made art by tweaking their AI prompt for a couple of minutes. Local markets and maker faires are slowly being overrun with stalls selling articulated dragons designed by an artist but then printed ad infinitum by printer owners who feel that by choosing which colour to print in, they've had transformative input into the design process. 👴✊☁️ <a href="https://merveilles.town/tags/rant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rant</a>

LinuxisthewayWer sich keinen neuen Computer kaufen möchte, um Windows 11 zu gefallen, sollte sich langsam aber sicher Schritt für Schritt um andere Betriebssysteme kümmern. Ich bin damals während meines Studiums komplett auf Linux umgestiegen. Und das während der Pandemie. D.h. alle Meetings etc. habe ich auf Linux abgehalten, all meine Daten unter Linux aufbereitet, alle Arbeiten unter Linux geschrieben, alle Daten unter Linux in 3D visualisiert. Es war möglich, wenn man wollte und so ist es immer noch. Es muss ja nicht Linux sein, macOS oder BSD gibt es da auch. Und nein, es ist nicht ein jeder User professioneller Grafiker und benötigt Photoshop und alle Funktionen von MS Office. Das ist nur eine Illusion der Bequemlichkeit. Alternative Softwarepakete haben eine Fülle von Funktionen, Gimp (unlängst eine neue Version erschienen, mit zahlreichen neuen Funktionen, die auch für Farbdruck wichtig sind), Krita, Blender für Grafiker zum Beispiel. Sonst wäre es auch seltsam, dass es Grafiker gibt, die ausschließlich open source nutzen. Man muss sich halt ein wenig hinter eine Suchmaschine setzen und seinen Workflow recherchieren. Das geht im Normalfall gemütlich an einem Wochenende. Sobald das geschafft ist, finden sich auch Software-Lösungen und in kürzester Zeit rennt das wie geschmiert.Solange wie möglich auf Windows setzen bis es wirklich nicht mehr geht, ist das schlechteste, was man tun kann. Denn dann fällt man ins kalte Wasser und muss hoffen 1. blitzartig schwimmen zu lernen und 2. schnell Software zu finden um die eigenen Bedürfnisse abdecken zu können.Das ist ein Rat von mir. Es soll ein jeder Mensch tun, was er/sie möchte. Wenn genug Zeit vergangen ist, wird halt das Jammern an mir abprallen. Es soll niemand sagen, es wurden keine Alternativen vorgeschlagen.
