ZoomWelcome! You are invited to join a meeting: Connect to Collect: Preserving Social Digital Photography Through Collaboration and Community Engagement. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting.A Talk by Karolina Hedström, Stockholm County Museum, Sweden and Bente Jensen, Aalborg City Archives, Denmark This talk will present the Connect to Collect, a collaborative network of museums and archives dedicated to collecting and preserving social digital photography. Through the development of the innovative web app Connect to Collect, we aim to explore new methods for gathering and curating this vital form of contemporary heritage. Our current project emphasizes community engagement, employing citizen science approaches to address contemporary themes such as social and ecological sustainability, place, identity and sudden traumatic events (such as the 2017 Stockholm Terrorist Attack). Everyday digital photography—often shared on social media—represents a powerful documentation of modern society from the perspective of citizens and communities. Together, Nordic museums and archives involved in this initiative are pioneering participatory strategies to preserve this invaluable cultural heritage.

posted this on Bluesk but it's very useful so posting it here as well,

Archivist's Pro Tip: The Internet Archive exposes a few of the original HTTP headers from the source server, including "Last-Modified", if you're ever trying to pinpoint down the exact date a change was made to a website but the archive doesn't have a capture from that specific date

The #Trump admin has earmarked dozens of #NationalPark Service [#NPS] #grants for elimination, including several that aim to protect #PublicLands from the effects of #ClimateChange, acc/to an internal agency document detailing the plans.

A spreadsheet of grants likely to be canceled claims the cuts could *save* $26 million by canceling grants to #universities, state #historic #preservation offices, #tribes & #YouthCorps.

Update. "Because of #Trump: [The German] Central Library of #Medicine builds alternative to US database."
heise.de/news/Wegen-Trump-Zent

From Google's English: "The German National Library of Medicine (#ZBMed) has announced its intention to create an "open, reliable, and sustainable alternative" to the #PubMed database, one of the most important and comprehensive resources for biomedical literature worldwide. The meta-database, with references to relevant articles and over 38 million citations, is operated by the National Library of Medicine (#NLM), a division of the National Institutes of Health (#NIH) in the United States. ZB Med is responding to concerns that the US administration under Donald Trump is cutting funding for the NIH. There are also fears that political influences could compromise PubMed's scientific integrity."

Update. "Scientist Who Helped Prove Humans Changed the Climate Watches Evidence Being Erased"
sfpublicpress.org/scientist-wh

"Ben Santer never imagined that 12 words could change the trajectory of his life and humanity’s understanding of what it was doing to the planet: 'The balance of evidence suggests a discernible human influence on global climate.' He wrote that sentence as the lead author of a pivotal chapter in the 1995 report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [#IPCC]…Now the #data sources that made that discovery possible are under threat… 'There’s real concern that the data may go away, that the satellites, measurements that have been collected for 40 plus years, may not continue.'"

Update. "ERICA is a rescue catalog which preserves over 500,000 Open Access publications originally hosted by the US Department of Education in the #ERIC research repository. ERIC was defunded on the 23 April 2025 and the maintenance contract is set to expire soon, meaning that ERIC is likely to shut down. The PDFs were rescued using the Internet Archive's #WaybackMachine by a volunteer of the #DataRescueProject. When you click on one of the publication ID links, you will be redirected to the archived PDF in the the Wayback Machine. Feel free to host your own copy of ERICA by simply cloning this source code repo, which also includes the metadata for the catalog."
