Since I’m recovering from a medical procedure yesterday (kidney stone zap!), I didn’t think it prudent to participate in my local #NoKings rally today, especially in the heat. So while my family went, I supported quietly from home. And since my son borrowed my “Embrace Radical Empathy” shirt to match his mom, I wore this instead.

Did you know that you don't *have to bow your head or close your eyes to pray?

Why do we do it:

Closing your eyes helps with focuss and reducing surrounding visual distraction when praying with God. Folding your hands together helps with additional distraction by keeping your hands still when praying to God.

Bowing your head just symbolizes respect, and attention to the king aka God.

James Hamilton, Presbyterian minister, says Christianity civilizes by instilling equity (the Golden Rule), tenderness, compassion, and Truth.

Are we equally invested in both — or at least not a sarcastic opponent of one— saving the lost and relieving the wretched? Would anyone see tenderness in you, or the last 3 Christian influencer/pastors you quoted?

How can you put yourself in a neighbor’s place?

In this week's #grandma recording, I asked her about #praying at the table. She said, that her and her parents used to pray before and after the meal. They were still doing that during World War II, until some soldiers were quartered at them. Then it stopped and they never resumed. I had experiences with praying before eating at some friends, but I had never heard about praying after eating as well. Did you? #genealogy #prayer

Another Shabbat.

I'm sitting here with a heart that feels like it's being pulled in a thousand directions, waiting for tomorrow.

Four more women are set to be released from captivity.

Four lives that have been through unthinkable darkness.

I'm anxious, excited, and fearful all at once.

Will it go as planned? Will they come back safe? Will they be okay?

I can’t stop hoping that they’ll return in the best state one can after enduring so much — and that tomorrow is the beginning of their long journey toward healing.

To these women I’ve never met but feel deeply for — you are not alone.

You are in the hearts of so many, including mine, waiting and hoping for you to come home.
