Rev Peter W Nimmo<p><strong>Opening Prayers for Trinity Sunday, Year C (June 15 2025)</strong></p><p><em>These opening prayers for Sunday worship are inspired the Scripture readings of the Revised Common Lectionary. Worship leaders are welcome to use them for worship, but if you print or display any part of them, please credit the author. Comments welcome. The following prayers are for based on the readings for <a href="https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/texts/?y=384&z=p&d=52" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Trinity Sunday, Year C</a>.</em></p><p><strong>Call to Worship</strong></p><p><em>Optional: the congregation may say together the words in <strong>bold</strong>.</em></p><p>O Lord, our Sovereign,<br><em><strong>how majestic is your name in all the earth!</strong></em><br>You have set your glory<br><em><strong>high above the heavens.</strong></em><br>Out of the mouths of babes and infants<br><em><strong>come songs of praise which defy the powers of evil.</strong></em><br>Entrusted with the honour of stewarding your creation,<br><em><strong>we serve and praise you.</strong></em><br>O Lord, ruler of all<br><em><strong>All glory be yours!</strong></em></p><p><em>based on Psalm 8</em></p><p>Let us worship God.</p><p></p><p><strong>Prayer of Approach</strong></p><p>Let us pray.</p><p>God of all creation<br>to you we bring our praise.<br>In your wisdom<br>before time began<br>you created all that is.<br>Like a master worker<br>you delight in all you have made.<br>And your wisdom is still at work in creation<br>playing among us<br>and calling us to ever deeper knowledge and understanding<br>of your mystery, your power, and your love.</p><p>We see your majesty<br>reflected in the skies, in the mountains,<br>in animals, fish, birds and insects-<br>from the largest whale<br>to the smallest bacteria-<br>all this is from you<br>and all these are your gifts<br>to keep us alive and thriving.</p><p>Yet you saw us drift from Divine Wisdom<br>as we selfishly tried to go our own way.<br>Therefore, you sent your Wisdom in human form:<br>Jesus, the carpenter of Nazareth<br>whose life and teachings<br>speak of a wisdom beyond human understanding<br>and whose death and resurrection<br>point to the depths of your divine love.</p><p>And Christ has promised us his Spirit<br>to guide us into your truth<br>helping understand the words of Scripture<br>and draw us deeper into your wisdom.</p><p>Your glory is above the heavens<br>and your wisdom is beyond our comprehension-<br>but you are mindful of us, and care for us:<br>power and glory belong to you, Sovereign God!</p><p><strong>Prayer of Confession</strong></p><p>God of all things,<br>you have called us to care and protect<br>your wonderful creation<br>but we have abused our power<br>thinking to subjugate the Earth’s complex ecosystem<br>for selfish ends<br>and threatening to undo the very things-<br>good earth, clear water, clean air, a variety of species-<br>which your wisdom designed<br>to keep us alive.<br>Forgive, we pray,<br>our ignorance, greed and stupidity<br>which puts your good creation and risk<br>and which divides us from neighbours near and far.</p><p><em>silence</em></p><p>St Paul wrote to the church at Rome:<br>Since we are justified by faith,<br>we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.</p><p>May your faith assure you of God’s forgiveness<br>and his Spirit lead you to truth and peace.</p><p><strong>Supplication</strong></p><p>God of wisdom<br>whose Spirit is at play in the world<br>to draw us more deeply<br>into the love of Christ;<br>enable us, by your Spirit<br>to make us better stewards of your creation<br>loving neighbours to our fellow women and men<br>and faithful, Spirit-filled, joyful disciples of Jesus. Amen.</p><p><strong>Dedication of Offering</strong></p><p>Let us pray.<br>Creator, redeemer, and Spirit among us,<br>You have been generous to us,<br>and you have called us to be<br>stewards of your good creation.<br>Out of your bounty we offer our gifts<br>to be used for your service<br>and the spreading of Christ’s Kingdom. Amen.</p><p><strong>Children’s Prayer</strong></p><p>Creator God,<br>thank you that you are our mother and our father<br>and that you care for us as your children.<br>Jesus, our Friend,<br>thank you that you lived with people<br>and knew all that makes us happy or sad.<br>Companion Spirit,<br>thank you that you are always with us<br>helping us know God’s presence with us.<br>Creator, Son and Spirit:<br>bless us all. The buildings pictured were vacated in 1976, since when Divinity has been taught at the main university campus at Gilmorehill.
