Nick Wright
I've embarked on a whole-ass self-hosting journey over the past several weeks, and now I have a functional home lab centered around two Raspberries Pi I bought a decade ago. I have them both running DietPi, which I very much recommend for these older SBCs. While I was able to install modern Raspbian on these, they moved like quicksand, especially the original Model B. Also, I don't need a desktop environment, as that wasn't a fun experience on Pis even in 2015.

I have them both hosting PiHole so if one of them needs to update it doesn't annihilate itself due to not having DNS (ask me how I found that out.) This hasn't been able to kill ads on like Tubi or HBO Max or Prime, but it has made the native Roku ads go away and knocked out a lot of mobile ads, so it's worth it.

I've also replaced my paid Dropbox account with Syncthing, and I'm getting into Home Assistant as an Alexa replacement, but more about that later.

#selfhosting #dietpi #pihole #raspberrypi
