While #Trump is illegally ignoring Supreme Court decisions in order to advance his #fascist agenda, #PierrePoilievre, as Prime Minister, would seek to use, for the first time ever by the federal government, the Canadian Constitution's #NotwithstandingClause in order to end what he calls "#WokeCulture" in the #PublicService and in the #military.

But he denies being a "mini-Trump"

Canada goes to the polls on April 28. Investigative journalist @justinling has a new series, Chaos Campaign, following the issues and events leading up to the election. Here's his story about how the different parties want to address one of the country's most challenging problems — the housing shortage. His conclusions: The Greens and New Democrats: Nonsense hokum. The Conservatives: Good, but incomplete. The Liberals: Great, but can we trust them? "The only thing to do now is to absolutely grill your local candidates on how they will, personally — not as a party — advocate for strong solutions to the housing crisis," Ling writes.
"We got into this mess because of endemic buck-passing and the ability for a small group of anti-development yahoos to hijack the conversation. The only way out of this is to demand accountability and make it clear that we want more homes."

I don't disagree that Canadians overall think Mr. Carney would be better at dealing with Pres. Trump. But Québec reacts to #PierrePoilievre differently from elsewhere.

Zoom out to look at the polling from a year ago. While Canada in general put #CPC support above 40%, support in Québec was around 25%.

And that level of support has stayed roughly stable, even in 2025: what we've seen since then is BQ/NDP support going to the LPC.

#PierrePoilievre is trending in the wrong direction. The #CPC leader has struggled to endear himself to #Canadians. A majority of Canadians have consistently said they have a negative opinion of Poilievre. #MarkCarney is now seen as the best choice for prime minister, & the best candidate to handle #Trump’s trade war & threats of annexation. Under Carney, the #Liberals are currently polling @ their highest level of support since Sept 2016”

At an Ottawa rally PP answered a (friendly?) local reporter’s question about crime by saying he was going to repeal the Liberal “catch and release” Bill 75, while neglecting to mention the bill was the result of a Supreme Court decision that said previous bail provisions violated the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Looks like he really wants to have a chance to use the Notwithstanding Clause.
