Bis zum 26. Juni kann man mit ihr noch KI-Anfragen stellen, spätestens dann muss man auf die eingebauten Funktionen des Browsers zurückgreifen. Die Orbit-Erweiterung band eine künstliche Intelligenz ein, die dann unter anderem direkt aus dem Browser heraus Fragen beantwortete, sowie längere Texte und Videoinhalte kurz zusammenfasste. Im Hintergrund kam dabei das Modell Mistral 7B zum Einsatz, das Mozilla in seiner Infrastruktur betrieb. Mittlerweile hat Mozilla allerdings eine Seitenleiste in Firefox integriert, über die man ebenfalls die Dienste einer künstlichen Intelligenz in Anspruch nehmen kann. Daher verwundert es nicht, dass Mozilla jetzt der Orbit-Erweiterung den Stecker zieht: Ab dem 26. Juni lässt sie sich nicht mehr nutzen. Orbit selbst kam dabei nie über das Beta-Stadium hinaus. Die in Firefox vorhandene Seitenleiste zapft jedoch bestehende Cloud-Dienste an, wie ChatGPT, die nicht direkt unter der Kontrolle von Mozilla stehen.
