Single script file managers provide some amazing features, with *one script*, plus some dependencies. The images are the advanced text editor in Tiny File Manager, customisable for code languages and themes. This* *script is 250k. Comparing the complexity of #Moodle (or #Drupal) with #Nextcloud, all functions are available in both, except doc editing. Moodle is much less bloated, easier to run, and doesnt need to be used for education. So Im stopping tests for Nextcloud, at least for now.

Update on my Nextcloud testing. Ive come to the conclusion it isnt worth using Nextcloud for file management if on shared hosting. The only thing that makes NC different is the ability to edit docs online - and you need a VPS for that, Im fairly certain. You also need a lot of memory and GB storage space. Imo, all other functionality is available with other apps, (eg #Drupal, #Moodle, #Grav etc) depending on use cases, even single script File Managers provide a lot.

#Nextcloud had 50 mensen verwacht op de #NextCloudEnterprise dag in Den Haag. We zijn met 350!

De eerste slide van
@Karlitschek is de reden waarom ik hier ben. Want IT is politiek!

Mooi =)

@Linux there are 3 big options you forgot that I know of which too ain't under #Cloudact aka. have no subsidiary/office/parent company in the #USA:

And for #PasswordManagers, there's also #Enpass for those that don't like #KeePassXC / #KeepPassDX / #KeePass and for organizations there's even #Passbolt as a centrally manageable solution. All of these allow #SelfCustody & #SelfHosting on-premise.

I'm looking for suggestions for a #GoogleCalendar alternative - ideally needs to be able to host a calendar with which:
- I can invite people to events
- people could import it into whatever calendar software they were using
- I can share with specific people who would be able to edit it (ideally using their preferred software)

So far I've tried #Cryptpad, #NextCloud (hosted by thegood.cloud), and #Framagenda (which is also NextCloud under the hood, it turns out).

If you’re curious about alternatives to #BigTech, this video review by @Techaltar is very insightful and mainly focuses on @tuxedocomputers laptops with their own fork of Linux / @kde, #Fairphone smartphones with the Android fork /e/OS, and the @nextcloud office suite.

on my way to get rid of US services i try to stop using iCloud for storing photos from my iPhone but it seems like nothing really works well.

proton drive took a week to upload the 120Gb of photos once, and now tells me every few days again that it’s „preparing to backup 19000 photos“, including long hangs at start, etc.

Nextcloud keeps just behaving strange.

it’s a long way to go.

@maxleibman Those are 13 good reasons why I‘m currently testing #NextCloud. Initial setup is a bit tricky, since the whole system can be a complete and configurable replacement, currently in my testing only an added backup, of calendar, cloud office, Dropbox, iCloud, Google-Cloud, Mailserver, etc.. Crazily powerful and #OSS so a future move/transfer is possible. If it works out to my liking, I‘d be able to unlock myself from the walled garden of Apple/Google and choose again freely!

jhc this #nextcloud thing is very erratic. Yesterday everything was working out of the box using OpenOffice and the Community document server. But sometime in the evening everything suddenly stopped working. Nothing would open. I did zero for this to happen. This morning its veeeeery slow and still cannot open any documents. Yes Im on shared hosting, not a docker setup but it really should not be this hard to install and run a simple 1 user instance.
