In my isolated life, my plants are my only tactile contact with other living things; they're good for my spirits and mental health.However, I'm not producing food in meaningful quantities. Ian RoseAll of the microgreen batches I've grown so far have been a single species, and generally I do prefer it that way (similar height for easy cutting, can tweak conditions and timing for particular species). But this was my first mixed greens batch, and it came out great. We're finally getting a bit more winter-like today, with the weather prediction for the afternoon including snow showers and a high in the low 40s F. I'll walk the dogs this morning. There's little news here. The radish <a href="https://med-mastodon.com/tags/microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#microgreens</a> were ready to eat as of yesterday, and I mixed some into a quinoa dish and used more for garnish. Flying_Donny for democracyGood morning, Mastodon friends! The daikon radish seeds that I planted on 11/13 have germinated, and I uncovered the container and moved it to a south window. The microgreens will green up and be ready to eat in another couple of days. The pea shoots need another day or two of darkness in the warmer kitchen before they're ready to move. I'm aiming for a little extra walking for the dogs today since it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow. Flying_Donny for democracyI decided this would be a good time to get back into growing microgreens, so out came my trusty carry-out food containers and coffee can lids. One bowl is pea shoots and the other is daikon radish microgreens. They'll stay in the warm kitchen until the seeds have germinated and then move into the south window in the living room. The radish ones should be ready in a week or so. The pea shoots will take a few days longer. <a href="https://med-mastodon.com/tags/microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#microgreens</a>

JulesI also thought this was a very cool bit of circular repurposing - the herb roots grow in a mat within the <a href="https://social.coop/tags/hydroponic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#hydroponic</a> tube, which they peel out to clean the tubes when the crops have finished. They dry them off and then use them to grow <a href="https://social.coop/tags/microgreens" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#microgreens</a> on, then eventually the whole thing gets composted. <a href="https://social.coop/tags/Permaculture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Permaculture</a>
