I think this is a first for me here. Found a Liverwort growing at the base of my fern outside. Odd little critter..

Does anyone knowledgeable know if this plant is a lichen or a liverwort? I was struck by the different plant types on the rock walls of a disused railway cutting in Rothbury. One side is mostly moss and the other this plant, and it varies along the length too.
