#WordWeavers 2. Something you liked about a recent passage

I'll share the last paragraphs of CH19 of Eternal Flame.

I like this passage because it's the beginning of Ashrah's obsession with Nitara (who's a vampire, not a succubus), a feeling that has so many layers to it, and it's how the story explores more deeply the theme of "Ashrah HAS feelings other than rage and violence, she just doesn't know how to EXPRESS them yet."

This goes for #LesFicFri "promise", too!

“You aren’t even listening, are you?” Ashrah looked down at the sword waiting on her lap. The two black dots on its hilt stared up at her like two motionless eyes. “No.” Datusha huffed. “Appreciate the honesty.” “Did you say anything?” Sareena peeked inside the destroyed house, her gaze landing on Ashrah’s arm. “Ah, all done?” A scar, barely visible in the grimy darkness of the building, outlined the trajectory that the succubus’ fangs had carved upon her skin. Ashrah could have erased the mark, made sure no one would ever know such a contemptible demon had somehow bested her in a fight. But she did not want to. She would carry that scar until she confronted her nemesis and emerged victorious. Staring at the blemish upon her skin, the memories of the fight fresh in her mind, she promised to herself that she would find the succubus again, even if she had to hunt the fiend across the Netherrealm. Without the succubus’ death, Ashrah knew deep in her soul, her purification would never be complete.

#LesFicFri "HUNGER"

They went in for luncheon, although Veronica found she was not very hungry, and then went to her room to change into clothes more appropriate for a visit to the town.

There were piles of clothes everywhere.

“I’ve finished adjusting all your clothes and started on the packing,” said Polly as she helped Veronica undress. “I know Switzerland is supposed to be warm in summer like it is here, but it is mountains after all, so I’m packing everything I can think of that you might need.”

“What about you?”

“That won’t take long.”

“But you did get some new clothes for the trip?”

“I did, and some for Ursula should arrive tomorrow.”

The world is stressful—cruelty, dissenting opinions about said cruelty, taxes... Come sit at my table for a while. My bread basket is magic—it can provide whatever you need. Same goes for the teapot on the table, and the larder, if pastry won't do. She rubbed her eyes. The bad night had left its mark. She was very tired.

Then she noticed her fingers, crusted with something brown, that was also embedded beneath her nails. Using the nail of her left index finger, she scraped at the brittle stuff on her right hand. It came off readily enough but as she worked at it, Polly bustling about preparing her wash basin, Veronica saw with horror her breasts were smeared with the dried on stuff as well.

Wetting her finger she tried to rub it off before Polly noticed. Not only was there too much, she discovered her desperate passion of the night before was the cause: she had dug her nails so hard into her breasts she had broken the skin and caused herself to bleed.

Then Polly said: ‘Oh.’
