Reversing Australia’s trajectory of biodiversity decline

"Australia has ... lost at least 100 species since European colonisation."

"To undo all the human-induced damage and bring nature roaring back across their viable continental range would come with a staggering cost – A$583 billion per year, every year, for at least 30 years. That’s 25% of our GDP. "

"The most cost-effective action is to avoid further damage."

The ConversationFully recovering Australia’s threatened species would cost 25% of GDP. We can’t do it all at once – so let’s start hereThis new research estimates the price and benefits of recovering threatened species – and offers cost-effective ways for environment groups, farmers, governments and others to make a difference.

There is a pretty big wooded lot of pine trees and other species of trees by my office. As I was leaving the other day I saw a bunch of these little flowers in shrubs all along the road in front of the trees. From a distance I thought they might be small wild roses. They are not. According to the google they are Common Lantana. I thought they were pretty.

So the next morning I stopped and took a picture so I could show you. ☺️

Also… look at us having a little autumn color change in the Houston area.

It's hot! In the old calendar in Japan and China, 立秋 has already passed meaning we've entered the first phase of autumn. In reality, it's far from it. A swallowtail has visited for quite a while collecting nectar from lantanas: the first since April when another one was flying around azaleas.
Of course, Kengo has to appear for Mastodonians for Friday eve.
