Some #Republicans are pushing back on #tariffs and one quite loudly.

Will it work? That remains to be seen butI predict that this will affirm the fear of many #Republican voters leading to them calling & writing to their own #Senators & #Representatives. That & the wave of #Democratic might *make* a difference. How much these leaders care about their own ellectorate is unclear, but they *do* care about their own #power & #prestige.

The Kapok tree Ceiba pentandra also called Ceiba or Silk-cotton tree is the king of the jungle, venerated by the Mayas who considered it to be the Earth's axis. I took this photo with my friend Nicos Argillet during a filming about this incredible tree in French Guyana.

How I took this photo ? Canon R3 EF24-70 f2,8 1/200e f8 Iso 800 Manual Raw. I stitched 4 photos to make this one.

The guide picked up a stout stick and walked up to the huge buttressing roots of the kapok tree.
"If you're ever lost in the jungle, this is what you do," he said, and struck a root hard with the stick, producing a loud, low #note. He hit it again, and again. BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

From far away, an answering boom. The guide nodded, satisfied.

"The sound carries," he said. "Anyone around will hear. They'll answer and come find you."

Do you remember our little excursion in Sierra Leone’s Nationalpark Tiwai (yes, the one with the little boat cut out of a tree where I thought I would maybe die)? After coming back to the village in one piece I asked what the boat is made of, and the locals said something like “contry tree”. I basically know nothing about plants so I didn’t wonder too much - but now three countries later I was reminded of that boattrip again: turned out that “contry tree” is somehow a slang for cotton tree, and this cotton trees are what you in English call “Kapok trees”. Maybe you have never heard of it, but for sure seen it somewhere on pictures: their buttress roots can be wide up to 15 meters. This Togolese beauty here was not that big - but I was still very impressed by the massive, beautiful trunk.
