More women. More communities of color. More working-class voices. #ProportionalRepresentation creates a government that looks like the people it serves.

"Portlanders just used proportional ranked choice voting to elect their most representative city government in more than a century. Voters chose leaders who form a portrait of the city in miniature. The dozen councilors include three renters, five people of color, six women, eight millennials (one only 28 years old), and residents of twelve different neighborhoods. Most importantly, proportional representation paved the way for a council that reflects Portlanders’ varied political beliefs, full of advocates for different viewpoints from business to labor, from moderates to progressives, and even from animal rights to transportation safety."

I bought the Rabbit R1 — even though it’s not for me
As a blind tech user, I knew the R1 wouldn’t be accessible.
But I bought it anyway. Why?
Because if we aren’t testing and speaking up, accessibility won’t improve. Inclusion starts with showing up.
In my latest blog post, I explain why blind voices are essential in AI—and what I hope comes from this.

www.linkedin.comWSJ News Exclusive | What a Drop in Promotions for Black Workers Says… | Daniel Smith, MBA | 26 comments🚨📉 The Intentional Reversal in Corporate Diversity Efforts?? 📉🚨 🔍 The truth Behind Corporate Diversity Efforts - By the Numbers Recent McKinsey & Company data paints a troubling picture: the push to promote Black professionals in U.S. companies is losing steam. This isn't just about numbers; it reflects deeper systemic issues in corporate culture and societal norms. The data show that, for every 100 men of all races promoted into their first management role in 2022, 54 Black women were elevated. In other words, they were promoted at about half the rate as all men. In 2021, though, the rate was nearly double that, with 96 Black women promoted for every 100 men, approaching close to parity for a brief time. First-time promotion rates for Black men have also fallen, dropping to 66 promotions for every 100 men of any race elevated into a first management role in 2022. That is down from 72 Black men promoted for every 100 men in 2021. White men and women, meanwhile, were promoted at relatively high rates consistently between 2019 and 2022. 🎭 The Reality of Performative Posturing Post-George Floyd, corporations loudly pledged diversity and inclusion. Yet, McKinsey's findings suggest many commitments were more show than substance. The initial rise in promoting Black professionals now seems like a fleeting trend, not a permanent change. James D. White, the former CEO of Jamba who now serves as board chair of the The Honest Company., said the promotion data confirm what he has been hearing from Black professionals. “There is a really dramatic kind of pushback and retreat that I’ve seen in lots of places as it relates to the focus on Black men and Black women in the workforce.” Just after Floyd’s death in May 2020, top firms said they were focused heavily on equity, recruitment and promotions for Black men and women, the audits showed. More recent audits find most of the top 25% of companies have stopped making diversity a priority. 🔮 Understanding the Glass Cliff At the executive level, Black women's promotion rates outpaced men in 2022. In 2022, Black women were promoted to the executive ranks at a higher rate than all men. For every 100 men promoted into the C-suite, 132 Black women were elevated to those roles, up from 88 Black women promoted for every 100 men in 2021, according to McKinsey’s analysis. Black women’s promotion rate into the C-suite for 2022 was higher than Black men, white men and white women. Promotions into the C-suite for Black men in 2022 declined to 74 for every 100 men, down from 130 Black men for every 100 men in 2021, McKinsey said. 🏢🛠 The Need for Black Entrepreneurship -Empowerment through Ownership 💪🏾🏢Given these trends, Black professionals may want to focus on building their own enterprises.
