Koen Hufkens, PhD<p>🌍 after watching "The Core" the other day (fluff B-movie involving the earth's magnetic field), I was reminded to update my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rstats</span></a> International Geomagnetic Reference Field {igrf} package. The package now uses version 14 parameters as released late 2024.</p><p><a href="https://bluegreen-labs.github.io/igrf/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">bluegreen-labs.github.io/igrf/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/rstats" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rstats</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/IGRF" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IGRF</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/geomagnetism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>geomagnetism</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/geology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>geology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/movementecology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>movementecology</span></a></p>
Ralph-Uwe Börner<p>✅ My PR has been merged into the IAGA International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF) ppigrf repository. The changes provide users with greater control over the spherical harmonics expansion by allowing them to specify the minimum and maximum degree of the expansion.</p><p>The animation shows the multipole contributions to Earth's global magnetic field displayed as field magnitude. This illustrates the complexity of the geomagnetic field.</p><p><a href="https://github.com/IAGA-VMOD/ppigrf/pull/21" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/IAGA-VMOD/ppigrf/pu</span><span class="invisible">ll/21</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/geophysics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>geophysics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>python</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/igrf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>igrf</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/iaga" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iaga</span></a></p>
