@jbz If #Azure, #AWS, #GoogleCloud, #iCloud, and other US-based cloud services are to remain viable, then #Microsoft, #Amazon, #Alphabet, and #Apple will need to re-organize, such that operations in the #EU and #Canada come to be solely within the legal, physical, and cryptographic custody of non-subsidiary EU-headquartered or Canadian-HQ'd companies, with separate (EU or Canadian citizen and resident) boards and executives, bound by contract, licences, API, and cryptographic keys, yet legally and technologically uncontrollable except in compliance with EU or Canadian law by their US counterparts.

Hoe kan #Meta hier mee wegkomen?

Een opt-out voor #WhatsApp om je data niet door hun #AI te laten trainen, weggestopt achter een ingewikkelde URL, waarbij je naast je mobiel, ook een email adres moet opgeven om daarna een email toegestuurd te krijgen, nota bene vanuit een #iCloud adres, om een vragenlijst in te vullen?

Het moet met een pop-up met 1 klik + nog een bevestiging vanuit de landingspagina van hun eigen app klaar zijn. Of juist een vrijwillige opt-in.

Dit is kwaadaardige opzet.

OMG.

I’m trying to burn my #google bridges and I realize my contacts are split between #icloud and #gmail. I exported my contacts from #takeout to a .vcf file and imported it to iCloud on the web, where all of my combined contacts are now showing.

But they aren’t all pushing to my iPhone… I’ve turned contacts on/off, force closed the Contacts app, turned my phone on/off, turned off all other contact accounts, & all combos of these. 144 unidentified contacts still won’t sync to my phone. WTF.

Umzug #iCloud > #Nextcloud @hetzner abgeschlossen: Private & dienstl. Kalender auf NC angelegt, Termine umgezogen, auf iCloud gelöscht, ebenso Tasklisten & Kontakte.

Nur die Familie weiß noch von nichts. ;) Das wird noch haarig, v.a. weil ich 2FA angeschaltet habe.

Indes: all diese Daten, ebenso wie iCloud Drive, waren bei Apple E2E-verschlüsselt. Das ist auf der NC offenbar eine beinahe unmögliche & unzuverlässige Angelegenheit - das lasse ich vorerst.

Ich versuche die Funktionen der iOS Geräte zu kategorisieren, aus Nutzersicht. iPhone kommt ja von Telefon, und hat sein Dasein der #Kommunikation zu verdanken. Das ist die wichtigste Kategorie, sie umfasst telefonieren - wo ein Umstieg („de-apple“ oder #unplugtrump) nicht komplex sein dürfte. Dann kommen #iMessage (abgeschaltet, aber da tut‘s schon weh) und #FaceTime (naja) und… #Email (#iCloud alias Apple ID). Anderes ist ursprünglich nicht dem originären Zweck des Geräts zugedacht…

Wer die #iCloud verlasse möchte, sollte seine Daten vorher evakuieren. Ich habe meine Erfahrungen damit hier dokumentiert: blog.jenniferlostthewar.de/ios

Man kann aber auch einen Export nach Art. 15 DSGVO anfordern. Der sollte dann alle Daten (auch Fotos) enthalten. Ich habe das allerdings nicht selbst getestet, wäre aber interessiert, ob das alles abdeckt.

Familie - eingerichtet mit Frau, K1, K2, K3 und „Oma“, alle nutzen „meine“ iCloud und (immer seltener) meine Expertise
#AppleMusic - dito, wird geteilt
Sippe - meine beiden Geschwisterfamilien mit weiteren 4 Nichten und Neffen sowie die Schwiegertiger sind betroffen (bspw geteilte Alben, „Support“).
Also: #noapple = sozial komplexer Kontext.

Except THIS is not how any of this works!....

#Trump literally lashing out against friends and neighbours will only backfire hard, and I expect @EUCommission and @europarl_en to enact #PrizeFreezes for #US #products & #services whilst forcing #Retaliatory #Tariffs on all US #products and espechally #services, demanding 100%+ in all #fees, and #revenue of #GAFAMs' services and products to the point that they'll effectively cancel half their revenue that flows back.

  • Plus forcing all products and services to be processed and sold via a #EU-based #corporation and adding a 30% "#AlienTax" as the #USA already does for i.e. #App #developers that ain't from the US even if they never sold a single license to a US customer.

Not to mention cancelling any #DataProtection agreements that only stalled the foreseeable court decision that #CloudAct is incompatible with #GDPR, thus banning #Office365 / #Microsoft365, #iCloud et. al. from the EU!

Given #Trump can't be assed to even fake any #loyality or #allied status even for the cameras, this is a #ForeseeableConsequence.

Unless we want to end up #downgraded into the state of a US-occupied overseas possession without statehood, like #Guam, #PuertoRico or #AVI...
