So I snapped my Achille’s tendon on the weekend. I was doing a bit of #HEMA, and sparing with sword and buckler when it just went twang! A&E put me in a cast and said it looks to be completely ruptured. Seeing the orthopaedics unit at Charing Cross Hospital on Weds for a full assessment. Whatever happens, I’ll be hobbling in a cast for at least six weeks and no paragliding or full on HEMA for a few months. As it is I can barely make it up the stairs. Bother.

@hannu_ikonen i love #hema, for giving me all workouts wrapped in one. Balance, stamina, stretching, strength, explosiveness, mental workout, social contact, consensual violence. At 40+, i see i am in better shape than lots of younger guys around me. And then i try to read something and my eyes go: denied :p also, it seems much safer than a lot of common sports, paradoxically

I commissioned this absolute beauty two and a half years ago.

Over the past month the conversation has gone from "should I abandon hope of ever getting anything for that down payment" to "what color do I want the leather handle wrapping" and I couldn't be happier.

#introduction while trying to learn the new environment: I'm from #Finland , I intend to have this account to be kind of light-hearted and post about my hobbies and interests including everything cute, #sewing #knitting and #crafts in general, #AltFashion, usually at least inspired by Japanese alt fashion. I also do #reenactment of the Viking period and #HEMA (historical European martial arts) related to said time period.

My #cat is the cutest one there is so there will be #CatPics included.

I would love to find fellow #ProjectSekai and #EnsembleStars players! 敬礼!

There might also be some #politics included but it's not the main scope of this account. You can still expect general #AntiCapitalist and #Leftist views from me.

That's probably long enough lol

My historical #fencing (aka #HEMA these days) school used to use a bird site account for news, pictures from training etc. I'd like to replace this with a Mastodon or Pixelfed account. But, I am concerned that I will get complaints if I post pictures of fencing as it will be considered "violence". I might not remember CWs for every photo...

There don't seem to be any servers which look appropriate for this sort of thing; I could probably run one but don't really have the time at present.

In films when someone unsheathes a sword, it always makes a metallic scraping sound. Applies even to Japanese swords, where there absolutely shouldn’t be any sound. So someone who does #HEMA or other European sword arts: is it different there? Maybe the sheath has more metal that would cause a scraping?
