Yesterday's Rose<p>OK, so apparently <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/GooglePlayBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GooglePlayBooks</span></a> upload service won't play ball with all of the PDFs. Specifically, a 722 page, 527 megabyte PDF. (Bought some <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/ElfQuest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ElfQuest</span></a> albums off <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/HumbleBundle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HumbleBundle</span></a>. This was just the first one.) </p><p>Hope the Google Drive PDF thing works better.</p><p>...side note, how the hell do I even appear to have used up half of my Google Drive capacity? I barely use the darn thing.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/ebooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ebooks</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/comics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>comics</span></a></p>
Yesterday's Rose<p>One thing that mildly bugs my <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/ADHDbrain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ADHDbrain</span></a>: </p><p>It's easy to get <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/ebooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ebooks</span></a> from <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/ProjectGutenberg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ProjectGutenberg</span></a> and stick them in <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/GooglePlayBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GooglePlayBooks</span></a>, all right? BUT for a lot of old PG releases (old EPUB with no images), the Google Play Books just bugged out. Wrong metadata, grayed out or wrong cover image. So reading them was a real annoyance. Can't find books within this mess. Worst part is, Google Play Books won't let you edit the details. (...so all of my PDFs have correct cover art but just the filename.)</p><p>I just downloaded a few of the PG EPUB3 books - this seems work better, as at least these show the generic covers created by PG which are better than nothing.</p><p>Also I just deleted a book that has stuck in my Google Play Books catalogue this way for, like, a decade. (Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds) It apparently counted as three books. It just sat there in my library. Darkening my door. Bugging me. So today I redownloaded the EPUB3 version and stuck it there and whoop! works now kthxbye</p>
Yesterday's Rose<p>Daaaaamn, <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>reading</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/ebooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ebooks</span></a> can actually be fun.</p><p>Because I tried reading some of the books with the <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/GooglePlayBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GooglePlayBooks</span></a> app again. That reader is *buttery smooth*.</p><p>...compared to <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Kindle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kindle</span></a> app, which has, on all of my <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Android" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Android</span></a> devices I've ever had, been nothing but *mildly irritatingly sluggish*. Not sluggish enough to make you quit in frustration, but just mildly sluggish that it bugs you.</p>
hush404<p>I was curious about downloading <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a> from a Google Play/Books account to a <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/Kobo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kobo</span></a> reader. Knowing most companies loves their DRM, I assumed there would be some hoops to jump through. Seemingly not. Legit "export as Epub" and off to reading. Only tested on books I've gotten at no cost. Anyone know there's any restrictions here?</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/ebooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ebooks</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/googleplaybooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>googleplaybooks</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/ereader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ereader</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/epub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>epub</span></a></p>
