This is really good and well worth the 19 minutes, even if you don't think the history of fashion in fascist Italy sounds like your cup of tea. Some of it seems obvious, in a way, but it's a topic I'd never given much thought to, and there were a number of surprises that never would've occurred to me. Good stuff well researched.

Nothing like finding cloth moths to really feel connected to all the fabrics in your possession. Everything checked for material composition & put in the deep freeze for a week or quarantined until freezer space becomes available. An epic day of inventory!

This evening is the Met Gala in New York City, a benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, and fashion's biggest night out. For 2025, the exhibition's theme is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, guest-curated by Monica Miller, who wrote "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity." She told @npr when the book was published that Black fashion has historically been a clash of the "respectable" with the outré. "I think it's about looking and actually thinking," she said. "I think, sometimes, the well-dressed Black man coming down the street is asking you to look and think and even, sometimes, generate a new category." The hosts for the event include Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James serving as honorary chair.

#001 - Lava rock (The devil's in the details)

When I came back to making wallet chains a few months ago, I wanted to take the concepts I already had done, and expand on them further. Really see how far I could go with them.

Originally, this piece was supposed to be made with graduating onyx beads and have a much cleaner look. But after coming across the lava rock, and seeing what I had component-wise, I realized I could come up with something that although would seemed less refined, would end up being much more complex in turn.

What came of that was this: stainless steel, hand distressed chain (with accompanying jump rings), a mix of stainless steel and brass beads and components, lava rock stones, and finished off with a custom logo bead and pendant.

All in all, still some kinks that needed to be worked out, but definitely a step in right direction. And, more importantly, a confirmation that there were still plenty more designs in this space I could do, and that this was just the beginning.
