Factual level vs. personal level.</p><p>Nowadays, the tendency that any discussion results in personal insults is very high.</p><p>Besides: since <a href="https://graz.social/tags/Emacs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Emacs</span></a> is able to do everything(!) that <a href="https://graz.social/tags/vim" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vim</span></a> does (except vimscript) but vim can only do vim-stuff but only a tiny fraction of the stuff that's built-in or optional within Emacs, this is actually settled once and for all. 😈 </p><p><a href="https://graz.social/tags/editorwars" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>editorwars</span></a></p>
chesheer<p>I think, one of the lost arts of The Olden Webs is the art of a good rant. It was an important tool for any decent Web Crusader fighting the Holy War of Whatever. Modern rants are either too whiny or not a rants at all ("It's ok if you like &lt;x&gt;..." — what the hell, show me your war face! Bullshit, I'm not scared). In the olden days people were not only convinced they are right, they had enough humour and style in them to show their rightness with splendour.<br>Nowadays it's like reading Cicero's orations. It doesn't matter which side you're on, you read them as a piece of art.<br>So I found a beautiful example of such rant "vi vs. Emacs" from the Year of Our Lord 1996!<br>Just look at these amazing quotes:<br>"Emacs is for people who desperately want to get drunk, but feel guilty doing so without a reason."<br>"But vi is on everything and emacs isn't so it's obvious the best Unix editor to learn, besides, what difference does it make that you can't tell what mode you're in if you happen to answer the phone in the middle of an edit and it doesn't really matter that typing your name can cause you to program a complete web server if you happen to be in command mode, so vi is obviously really cool".<br><a href="http://www.rru.com/~meo/rants/emacs.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">http://www.</span><span class="">rru.com/~meo/rants/emacs.html</span><span class="invisible"></span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/Emacs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Emacs</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/vi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vi</span></a></p>
Debacle<p>I like to use <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/run0" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>run0</span></a> instead of <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/sudo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sudo</span></a>, but encounter problems, when having more than one user in the sudo group:</p><p>1. Minor, but annoying: On the shell, I always must choose which identity should be used. Can't it just assume the current login?</p><p>2. Opening a file in <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/Emacs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Emacs</span></a> with the run0 <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/TRAMP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TRAMP</span></a> method hangs. Probably identity selection does not work in Emacs? Again, it would be cool, if it just took my current uid as default.</p><p>Any idea how to fix that? TIA!</p><p><a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/systemd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>systemd</span></a> <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/question" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>question</span></a> <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/help" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>help</span></a> <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a></p>
