One of my coworkers has family whose back yard is literally the #border. Which does mean people cross through it. They are #elders, and they are afraid. Especially as they are also Latine. I can't blame them.

My friend has an elder currently in-hospital in #Edmonton. While the elder is reasonably mobile (all things considered) there are clear cognitive and physical barriers to doing formerly simply tasks.

My elder was disgusted with his behaviour.
Besides not wanting to be preached at when shopping, they were deeply offended that a complete stranger would be making assumptions about their religious beliefs.
I concur: there was no religious imagery on my elder, but then there was none on the antimasker either.
To assume anyone involved was of ANY particular belief was obviously foolish.

He stopped, looked at us, passed me over, and then zeroed in on my elder to spew completely unprompted and unsolicited advice that the only thing that will help was to "accept Jesus into your heart and be saved and He'll save you from this."
He didn't specify what "this" was to "help" but the context clearly implied his beliefs about my elder's need to be masking.

With regard to #WordsMatter, #vocabulary, etc. related to age, the widespread use of “aging” as a descriptor in articles and such often makes us chuckle. In our 20s we worked for a private foundation focused on ageism, and one of their buttons said “Aging—aren’t we all.”

All this talk about #local support groups, organizing small #support #communities has notably left out those who cannot meet up in person to do specific tasks. The #immunocompromised, the #elders, the #mobility-challenged—there are lots of skills there that could be tapped as well as a desire for community support. But where are the opportunities for them?
Ageism has become the norm throughout American culture, and deeply ingrained in a queer culture obsessed with youth.
I've found the internalized ageism among other seniors is as toxic in effect as by those generations younger.
