If only! I'd feel safer

In fact, the deductions from paychecks I've GLADLY paid enabled #elders who had worked hard all their lives to live in dignity when they retired before me

Now, I'm 65 & my very physical job isn't something I can continue indefinitely, but these #BillionaireFascists are going to ensure my last years are spent in poverty

#FuckTrump #FuckMusk
#SocialSecurity is basic humanity but they'll kill off anyone who doesn't pad their bottom line

🚨 If you have #disabled and/or #elders you care about living in the U.S., you NEED to see this!!! 🤡 #AdolphMusk taking MONEY DIRECTLY OUT OF CITIZENS' ACCOUNTS!? 🚨

The hunting for 'dead people receiving #SocialSecurity' shit is bullshit. It's about stealing money!

"As climate disasters intensify, older adults face disproportionate risks. Mobility issues, chronic health conditions and social isolation all play a role. Evacuation plans and emergency response systems simply weren't designed with aging populations in mind. Climate change is rewriting the rules of survival, and right now, we’re leaving too many behind."

Today we met Paul, an 88-year-old from Saint Paul, #Minnesota. Yes, he bikes at home in MN as well as when visiting Monterey. For more examples of #perennials aka #elders who help change misperceptions about #aging, see bikemonterey.org/perennials-bi.

Others we paused to chat with on our Jan 31 ride into town: Bo of the #Salinas Valley’s Schoch Family Farm (at Del Monte Center farmer’s market bikemonterey.org/monterey-coun); Isabel Orejel (at First Presbyterian #Church, Monterey bikemonterey.org/rest-stop-tip); Mikaela Heimer (at Whole #Dog Radiance on Casa Verde, the sister of Dani bikemonterey.org/youth-who-bik, both #sisters #bike); Erios (at Portola #Hotel’s #valet station bikemonterey.org/tips-for-tour); staff of Adventures by the Sea near Custom House Plaza (bikemonterey.org/tips-for-tour); Neal, a City of #Monterey #Parking Enforcement Officer patrolling Garden Rd (we were both appreciating the #rain beginning to fall bikemonterey.org/rainy-weather).

Wanna chat online with people who bike? One way to connect: #BikeNite @bikenite on Mastodon.

My elder was disgusted with his behaviour.

Besides not wanting to be preached at when shopping, they were deeply offended that a complete stranger would be making assumptions about their religious beliefs.

I concur: there was no religious imagery on my elder, but then there was none on the antimasker either.

To assume anyone involved was of ANY particular belief was obviously foolish.

He stopped, looked at us, passed me over, and then zeroed in on my elder to spew completely unprompted and unsolicited advice that the only thing that will help was to "accept Jesus into your heart and be saved and He'll save you from this."

He didn't specify what "this" was to "help" but the context clearly implied his beliefs about my elder's need to be masking.

@EverydayMoggie @ascentale @dioramic_life #BikeNite A5 We have a lot we could say about ageism in “bike community.” :( Instead of going there, we’ll share a related post with some favorite rollll models. bikemonterey.org/perennials-bi And BTW, we much prefer terms like perennials or even elders to seniors. With regard to #WordsMatter, #vocabulary, etc. related to age, the widespread use of “aging” as a descriptor in articles and such often makes us chuckle. In our 20s we worked for a private foundation focused on ageism, and one of their buttons said “Aging—aren’t we all.”

On a related note is topic of ableism; a good person to follow on that topic is sfba.social/@meganL@mas.to. Thanks to her, a new book on our reading pile is this one: Demystifying Disability by Emily Ladau.

Ageism has become the norm throughout American culture, and deeply ingrained in a queer culture obsessed with youth.

I've found the internalized ageism among other seniors is as toxic in effect as by those generations younger.
