#Microsoft, for ineffable reasons best known to Bill Gates' mother, decided to stop selling movies digitally. Can still play my #Xbox library, but not buy more.

I was like, well, *that was a damn shame.* My only other option right now to buy movies online is #YouTube, and, um, yeaaahhh, that's a Google platform, soooooo....

...I'm making a list of all of my digital #movie purchases on YouTube and Xbox and will buy #BluRay / #DVD discs when I eventually get around to. That's the only way to be sure these days, it seems.

How come CDs and DVDs don't have built-in protective cases like 3½ floppies do?

If they did, the DVDs at my local library wouldn't be this badly scratched up. My #DVD drive can't even read some of them at all!

I know there were #CD caddies in the 1990s, but they were bulky, expensive, non-standard, didn't come with the disc, and quickly disappeared because of these problems.

“It’s clear that #Collins still feels like he has been unfairly taken the lions share of the blame for the disastrous performance which he seemingly thinks everybody is partially guilty for, penning:

#LedZeppelin won’t let the performance be included on the official #LiveAid #DVD. Because, of course, they were ashamed of it.

And I find that I am usually the one blamed for it. It couldn’t possibly be the holy #LedZep who were at fault. It was that geezer who came over on #Concorde who wasn’t rehearsed. He was the culprit. That show-off.”

Granted #Sony still won with the #PS3 compared to the #Xbox360 because at launch it was the cheapest #bluray player (just like the #PS2 was at launch one of the cheapest #DVD players).

I have some VHS home movies that I managed to capture as MP4 files. I'm not sure what to do with them I was hoping there would be a simple way to mark "chapters" in each MP4 and burn to DVD, but I haven't found a solution. It looks like the simplest way is to edit the videos in something like flow blade, but I'll need to have 1 project/export file per chapter, and then use DeVeDe to setup chapters. Seems convoluted to split up the MP4 only to put it back together again though. I have like 2 dozen videos.

Anyone know a better workflow?

Who remembers DVDs and CSS-DeScramble (DeCSS)?

This one is the best version of distributing that code I've ever "seen" - I still think, this just awesome

Listen all the way through, how dramatic ... there is a point where he really sounds like he's gonna start crying...

#Movies #DVD #BluRay

It's curious to me that some movies now being released for general distribution for home use are ONLY being released in BluRay but not basic DVD format.

#ACompleteUnknown & #TheAmateur are current examples or this.

I also just bought a copy of #LoveMe -- a peculiar post-appopcalytic love story between a buoy & satellite voiced by Steven Yuen & Kristen Stewart -- that I saw at the theater & which also has only been released in BluRay.

Price doesn't seem to be the reason because the BluRay copy of the same movie released in DVD is often LESS than the cost of DVD.

I've got a BluRay player but many people do not &, while DVDs are upward compatible with BluRay players, DVD players cannot play BluRay discs.

This is the reason that I prefer to buy movies in DVD format, even though the image & sound quality of BluRay is arguably better.

So, it would make more sense to distribute movies mainly in DVD format & to do otherwise will just limit distribution.

Is that the "plan?" 🤔

#Movies #AutoRacing

I just watched #F1: The Movie at my local #AMC & it's the best movie that focuses exclusively on auto racing that I've ever seen.

The racing scenes are very realistic & the efforts of the race management & pit crews were well integrated in the flow of the movie.

The ending was predictable but I was surprised by it nonetheless.

I've give it an 8 out of 10 for auto racing movies, including:

Gran Turismo (2023)
Ford vs Ferrari (2019)
Days of Thunder (1990)
Le Mans (1971)
Grand Prix (1966)

which are the only other movies that I've seen deal that with auto racing in a serious way.

I'd love to by the #DVD of the movie if/when if ever comes out but this is an #Apple production & Apple NEVER releases any films that it produces on DVD for general distribution.

Hopefully, it will be different in this case. 🙏
