Of course the initial problem is not understanding more about the data. How are boats with local knowledge determined? How recent are the AIS tracks and can you filter by certain date ranges? What is the draft of the boat on a given route? None of this info appears available in the #Ditch app yet. It’s on the bleeding edge at the moment, but could develop into something useful.

Just heard about a new app called #Ditch. It’s available for Android, iOS, and as a web app. The developers pitch it as a safety app using AIS plotting on charts and AI learning to help understand the most common boat routes in an area and safe routes for transiting unknown areas.

I’m not certain about the latter, but I see some initial utility in plotting AIS on charts (created with the beautiful #mapbox gui). Below are two examples from St Andrew Sound and Washington, DC.

Not a thought outta blue that MS may ditch their "old thing" - for a Linux distro..
