#Trump pardoned Former #Illinois Governor Rod #Blagojevich for his #corruption #conviction, 5 years after commuting his prison sentence.

Blagojevich, who served as a *Democrat* [otherwise you can’t win in #Chicago TYVM], was removed from office in 2009 for attempting to solicit #bribes to fill the US #Senate seat Barack #Obama vacated when he became president. Trump in Feb 2020 cut short Blagojevich’s 14-year prison sentence.

In one memo, #PamBondi will establish a “Weaponization Working Group” to review #law enforcement actions enacted under the Biden admin for any examples of “politicized justice.”

That review will cover cases brought by fmr #SpecialCounsel #JackSmith over #Trump’s mishandling of #ClassifiedDocuments & 2020 #ElectionInterference, Manhattan DA #AlvinBragg’s hush-money case that led to a #conviction & a case from NYAG #LetitiaJames, in which she won a $454M civil #fraud judgment against Trump.

Though #Trump will soon begin the #appeal process, the case will be concluded after sentencing, meaning it will no longer hover over him. But he will also be the first convicted #felon to be sworn in as president.

This week, Trump filed a civil action against the judge overseeing the case, challenging a pair of recent rulings that upheld his #conviction. Both rulings rejected Trump’s argument that, as a former & future president, he is entitled to #immunity.

Even though Justice #Merchan has signaled that he will spare the former & future president any substantive punishment, #Trump is scrambling to avoid the symbolic blow of sentencing. Once Trump is sentenced for the 34-count #conviction, he will formally become a #felon.
