@RavynWitch Exciting! looks like you might be making your own seed compost. Do you have a recipe?

When I was younger, I was responsible for the #compost bucket—a yellow one whose stench triggered my gag reflex.
Strangely, when emptying my own compost buckets today, the smell wasn't nearly as offensive. This could be due to layering sawdust (a layer over every significant deposit) or a diminished sense of smell with age. Either way, I'm not complaining!
Hello friends!
I am Eden, I am new here, and I like making things grow.
My particular interests include tree pruning (think: fruit orchards, but also espaliers and bonsai when I'm feeling particularly spicy), figuring out how to grow a garden on a plot that is almost 100 % sand and gets little to no rain in the summer months, building soil, and collecting interesting vegetable varieties (bonus points if they are black/purple or variegated).
I am a mix of about 50 % idealism and 50 % cynicism. The world is going to shit, but… that doesn't mean we can't try to have nice things while we watch the world burn.
Follow and connect if you want to exchange ideas, passions, seeds or just talk about STUFF. I speak German and English well enough to hold a conversation, other languages might need some more time to decipher.

When the potatoes start growing so you just toss them in the compost to see what happens I might end up with potatoes growing in the compost - could be fun! (I got a whole pumpkin plant that way last year.)

Just turned my compost and it's fun to watch it heat up. Hopefully hitting red soon. #compost #composting #gardening #soil
@potterybyosa Seedling photographs are easy compared to a no-till or no-dig photograph. Charles Dowding of the UK has decades of no-dig experience he has shared. I understand the older material is less capitalist. I happy to share our Minnesota no-dig experience. Which often leads to someone with more experience. #nodig, #notill, #compost.
Built a Joraform composter today, the “Big Pig” I’ve had on back order for months. Good solid construction job, gonna be nursing the RSI for a bit! The compost from this will go into our heap compost along with chook poo and bedding and grass cuttings for incredible compost. #gardening #compost
@potterybyosa Mastodon has great gardening enthusiasts, allotment enthusiasts, and compost enthusiasts. Following hashtags leads you to gardening around the world. #gardening, #allotment, #compost, #vermiculture, #permiculture, #growyourown.
Perfectly true, but a thermal #compost bin (unlike a cheap plastic dalek) will usually break them down. That's been our experience.
Compost pile is actually legit warm with all this rain! Thats a first for us.
@Broadfork
Just realised, yesterday I failed to include the photo of the #compost bin after adding the contents of the three piles of #duckweed and #dredgings.
One compost heap has had its first turn at last. It’s quite well broken down already.
The compost in the yellow and blue grab bags has been turned three times since I stopped adding material to it.
It was turned before Christmas, at the end of January and now. #Compost #Mulch #Gardening #Allotment
At 09:09 this morning I decided it was a good time to take advantage of what the #wind had done overnight. A lot of #duckweed had accumulated in one of the bays in the #lake
visible from out lounge window.
With the aid of a angler's net attached to a long pole and a rake I managed to make a good stab of removing the weed along with some sludge and twigs found on the bed of the lake. It's now in a number of piles on the bank. I'll give it a day or two to allow #invertebrates to crawl back into the water and then move the piles to the #compost bins.
@Sannjord The garden vegetable starts look healthy. The celeriac is a week or two taller than ours. Our garden is on the southern Minnesota schedule. The mastodon gardening community inspires us to try different vegetables. We share a lot of gardening, compost, and fermenting photographs. Alt text descriptions are a big help to boosting posts. And hashtags are a big help for other gardening enthusiasts to see your posts. Examples. #gardening, #allotment, #compost, #growyourown.
