The notion that tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations automatically benefit everyone has been repeatedly challenged by economic research showing limited "trickle-down" effects and increasing wealth inequality. And yet the bumper sticker wisdom lives on.Why does this happen?"Bumper sticker" phrases - catchy one-liners about complex issues - sacrifice accuracy for memorability. Sobex<a href="https://social.sciences.re/tags/complexity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#complexity</a> <a href="https://social.sciences.re/tags/algorithm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#algorithm</a> <a href="https://social.sciences.re/tags/computerscience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#computerscience</a> So this morning I read about this paper <a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2501.02305" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank">https://arxiv.org/abs/2501.02305</a> (via <a href="https://www.wired.com/story/undergraduate-upends-a-40-year-old-data-science-conjecture/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank">https://www.wired.com/story/undergraduate-upends-a-40-year-old-data-science-conjecture/</a>) whereby a old conjecture about hash map has been disproved, with the elaboration of a more clever technique.However, this sort of paper really would deserve having actual figures explaining their strategy and the operation of the hash-map.(Just my one-cent review, if anyone knows how to forward that feedback to those involved).I sure hope they can further refine the paper and get it accepted in a top conference.
