Good news from the #CZSpectrumPlus that I am trying to get back to life:

having replaced the proprietary #ZX8401 chip with a modern FPGA based replacement, the system now comes up again - wooohooo !! 🥳

I've also replaced the old keyboard membrane which had brittled to oblivion with a new one, however only a fraction of the keys are working. Maybe I need to replace the keyboard "big" ribbon cable connector as well (I already replaced the "small" one).

But things are going into the right dircetion ...

EDIT: I've replaced the "big" / "wide" keyboard connector with a new one and now all keys are worikg. More footage later, gotta go now to get cat food.

@tanavit In fact, what is missing in Friendica to be the alternative to Facebook as which it was designed and positioned almost 15 years ago?

Or, @Lucas Janin 🇫🇷 🇨🇦, do you mean not a Facebook alternative, but an all-out Facebook clone, just like Pixelfed is an Instagram clone, Lemmy is a Reddit clone, and Mastodon tries to be the Twitter clone that Bluesky actually is? Something that looks and feels and handles exactly like Facebook, and the only thing you have to get used to is the different name and the different URL?

What's it with everything needing a 1:1 clone in the Fediverse? "Literally $COMMERCIAL_PLATFORM without $CEO and with ActivityPub, but otherwise identical to $COMMERCIAL_PLATFORM"?

OFC since #Opera #Mini needs a trustworthy proxy backend any "#clone" would need an #OpenSource'd & #SelfHosting-capable #backend (similar to @ActionRetro 's #FrogFind .com as it breaks #E2EE.

Needless to say it would be a godsent for anyone stuck on #EDGEland and slower speeds (i.e. #SATCOM like #Iridium)...

any rsync experts on fedi ?

in the past I've cloned disks on linux using dd :

(assume /dev/sda and /dev/sdb have the same geometry)

# dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb status=progress

but would rsync work for this task? Is this a good idea? Why or why not?

# rsync --info=progress2 /dev/sda /dev/sdb

Back to the #CZSpectrumPlus with the defunct #RAM - in preparation for the repalcement RAM that will arrive toorrow, I tried to de-solder the #IC marked in the photograph, but there were three pins that seemed to be nuke soldered to the #PCB and which I just couldn't free from solder in order to remove the chip. Especially pins 1 and 16 are very hard to come by.

Since I did not want to #heat #damage the PCB I stopped for the moment being to rethink my options. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

Meanwhile, I was able to cleanly remove what seems to be a makeshift fix for the keyboard connector. A fresh one, including a new keyboard membrane, is underway.
