#bppulse opens massive #EV charging hub near #LAX #Airport, it's largest in the #US to date
This is the first of many “#Gigahubs” in the works and has opened as #bp pulse’s largest #EVcharging station in the US. According to a release from bp pulse, the new EV charging #Gigahub is located two miles from LAX Airport and features 48 DC charging piles. The chargers offer a mix of 150kW and 400kW options as well as #CCS and #NACS plugs.

#DCC and #CCS are completely different animals though. Some kind of DCC will likely be necessary to reduce the amount of CO₂ we’ve already pumped into the atmosphere. Continuing research and development on that front should absolutely continue however at the moment it’s a long way from being viable, that’s why it’s important to turn off the faucet before we reach for the mop.

CCS is what the oilcos are pitching, which is more about capturing a waste product from their process and literally injecting it back into the ground in order to extract more oil. Somehow this is going to benefit us. 🤨

Wanted to share a little recap of my holiday yesterday. Wifey & daughter caught a ride in the morning with her parents to a family lake house. I stayed home for a bit longer with the pups. It’s not fair to them to be alone ALL day, in total they were alone 8 hours. Same as a work day.

Stopped to charge my #EV 3/4 of my way there, just to give myself plenty of juice for the return trip. Saw a 2025 #Ioniq5 with #NACS port built in. The irony, he was using an adapter at a #CCS station

Definitely encouraging as far as shipping emissions goes, and I appreciate that the quicklime used in the process will be produced with renewable energy - but, as I understand the normal process for making quicklime, limestone aka calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is baked at high temperatures, driving the chemical reaction CaCO3 > CaO + CO2.

And what is not addressed is how to manage the CO2 from this reaction - Yes, it can (in principle) be captured, but then what do you do with it? This is especially important, because the same problem applies to lime-based cement. I'd love to see a critique of this issue, it's at the core of the CCS/CCSU debates. I have not yet seen a good answer from eg SaltX or ZEQL.
