The #CBC At Issue panel discusses last night's #LeadersDebate: m.youtube.com/watch?v=q59fq-Ts

It was a good debate for #PierrePoilievre, they say, and #MarkCarney showed his inexperience at politics. (FWIW, #Polymarket's odds for a Liberal win went up about 2% at the end of the debate, and then drifted down by the same amount.)

#ChantalHébert points out that if the #CPC were to go up in overall support, that would likely push more NDP/BQ voters to the Liberals in response.

"I think Parliament should be allowed to specify penalties for crimes. I think that’s the kind of decision that properly belongs to elected legislatures, to people who must encounter and answer to the public from time to time, and not exclusively to ephors in ermine."

So I just found out that @revolutionpartycanada is a thing and I may finally have a party I can support and not just begrudgingly tolerate in order to avoid Conservatives.

Hey, RPC, do y'all have a way to get a lawn sign out? I know candidate count is low now, but I desperately need to break up the blue trend in my neighborhood.

Does anyone really want to argue that Alexandre Bissonnette didn't deserve 40 years without parole, his original sentence? Probably half of Canadians would like him to be hanged.

It's not hard to list crimes that the public thinks deserve stiffer sentences than what the Supreme Court has decided to permit.

I think that debate about using the notwithstanding clause to overturn R. v. Bissonnette (thereby permitting longer time without parole) is a winning one for Conservatives.

When the debate is an abstract one about Charter rights and judicial vs. parliamentary supremacy, opponents of the #NotwithstandingClause have reasonable arguments to make. But then the proponents will bring up specific crimes and voters will want stiffer penalties.
