fluffy af<p>In the same week both Canada and Australia’s conservative party leaders lost their seats in a general election. <a href="https://dataare.cool/tags/cadpoli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cadpoli</span></a> <a href="https://dataare.cool/tags/auspol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>auspol</span></a></p>

fluffy af<p>Looks like Pierre Poilievre (Leader of the Conservatives) has lost. Nine polls left to report (out of 266), with probably 3583 votes in them. He’s 3649 votes behind Bruce Fanjoy (Liberals). Good job Carleton. <a href="https://dataare.cool/tags/CADpoli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CADpoli</span></a></p>

Dave SH<p>Rallies don't vote. Polls don't vote either.</p><p>Its hard to look at the Conservative platform and think any working class Canadian would get ahead with those policies. There is nothing that addresses the affordability crisis. Lowering income tax doesn't change how much corporations charge for things. Allowing private corporations to set up shop for resource extraction doesn't make the average Canadian any wealthier or have access to good quality services like healthcare. Commodity housing doesn't become less of a commodity because the first $1m of the asking price is tax free. Homelessness, drug abuse, mental health crises, these things aren't fixed with harsh and stern policing. The list goes on.</p><p>Austere policies are only put in place to keep powerful people powerful. The issues facing Canadians are systemic and neither major party seems to want to address the root cause of the problems.</p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/cadpoli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cadpoli</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/cdnpoli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cdnpoli</span></a></p>

Kate McDonald<p>I wanted to put 5 choices and have an option for “I am not Canadian, show me the results” but couldn’t add more than 4 (and had limitations on characters for each option). I have heard some commentary lately about mistrusting the CBC, and Poilievre is talking about defunding it … I am curious where fediverse Canadians are at with the CBC! <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/elxn45" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>elxn45</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/cadpoli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cadpoli</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/cbc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cbc</span></a></p>
garthoid (he/him)<p>Schadenfreude is not a characteristic I normally subscribe to. garthoid (he/him)<p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/ICE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ICE</span></a> detention is big business. It is designed to keep people in regardless of the situation.</p><p>“Companies like CoreCivic and GEO Group receive government funding based on the number of people they detain, which is why they lobby for stricter immigration policies. It's a lucrative business:<br>CoreCivic made over $560m from Ice contracts in a single year. In 2024, GEO Group made more than $763m from Ice contracts.<br>The more detainees, the more money they make. It stands to reason that these companies have no incentive to release people quickly.<br>What I had experienced was finally starting to make sense.”</p><p><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/19/canadian-detained-us-immigration-jasmine-mooney" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">theguardian.com/us-news/2025/m</span><span class="invisible">ar/19/canadian-detained-us-immigration-jasmine-mooney</span></a><br><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/boycottusa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>boycottusa</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/cdnpoli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cdnpoli</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/cadpoli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cadpoli</span></a></p>
