New blog post: Boba Quest 2025
https://blog.legoktm.com/2025/01/07/boba-quest-2025-.html
I will be trying and reviewing a different #boba shop each week, totaling 50 new places over the year (hopefully). I've devised a 10-point scale to grade each shop, which is different than how I've done it in the past.
Let me know if you have recommendations; the first review will drop tomorrow.

Closing alert -- Sweet Boba in the North End has closed. https://bostonrestaurants.blogspot.com/2024/11/sweet-boba-in-bostons-north-end-has.html
Don't you feel like in a cup of #BobaTea, there is often more #boba than what you can handle before finishing the liquid, since it often requires explicit effort to suck up the boba? It seems wasteful and also makes paying extra for boba a bit of a scam... Do people just enjoy having edible non-minuscule objects in their drinks...?
#3GoodThings @3goodthings
1) Got to read and #journal all morning.
2) Spouse got us all motivated to work on a #pandemic photo book together all afternoon…
3) While each sipped on our preferred #boba teas at a place around the corner. (Kiddo made her own boba with a friend yesterday using tapioca starch, etc., but it’s a bit involved.)
We Have #Boba at Home https://blog.ultranurd.net/2024/08/11/we-have-boba-at-home/
There's a The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf x #tokidoki #Collab, with special flavors and #Merch.
I got a #Boba Bob, #DirtyChai #Latte with boba. It's weaker than I like (ofc), but not bad, and the boba (which I don't usually get) complements. Free #Sticker with collab drink, too.
They've already sold out of a lot of merch, online and in-store, and I hate myself for getting 3/4 #EnamelPins. But so cute...
So, I tried Boba tea yesterday and apparently it doesn't taste so bad

I've never been into #boba / bubble tea - I don't think I should be chewing my drinks. Monkey has begged to make boba at home for months, and we finally did it today. So my first cup of boba was okay (I made lemon tea to go with the pearls). But I definitely don't want to pay for it anymore, since making it was so cheap - Monkey has overplayed her hand here.
Decided to call an online friend-of-a-friend out (on short notice...) and visited this #BubbleTea #shop. Ordered a green tea #boba, and while it tastes pretty good, it's quite expensive (large "Kyoto" $8.75+tx). The place got a wall with comic books lining up the shelves and a book mural, but overall the place is a bit small. Anyways, we talked about life and career and stuff, and I earned two friends (who beared with my infodump), so that's cool.
Maison O Thé
5317 Chemin Queen-Mary, #Montreal
I really like Chicha San Chen because they're one of the only boba brands that takes the 'tea' part of boba super seriously. You can see them brewing the tea, separately, from good loose tea leaves. In NorCal, they're only in Cupertino ;/ but they are also in San Gabriel Valley in SoCal. They're from Taiwan, of course.
F-Tier #Boba:
Gong Cha
Given the reach of this chain, this place doesn't even deserve D Tier. If you order 2 teas at 30% sugar, expect one to have no sugar and the other to be too sweet. The only consistent thing about Gong Cha is that the shops always feel like an unkempt college dorm room.
