#Bluetooth was a mistake: Millions of Bluetooth headphones can potentially be turned in eavesdropping devices. Best-seller #Sony and #Bose #headphones are affected by at least some of the disclosed flaws among many others. The true dimension of these flaws is yet unknown as the the vulnerable component is very widely in use under different names.
Disclosure of the vulnerabilities: https://insinuator.net/2025/06/airoha-bluetooth-security-vulnerabilities/
No updates or official statements available yet.

Auracast wirft vermeintlich unverzichtbare Bluetooth-Techniken über Bord und kann gerade deshalb ein ganzes Stadion dasselbe hören lassen.
Bluetooth headsets these days is great, but I have two big peeves with them.
Pet peeve #1 with #Bluetooth… seems headsets operate in one of two modes:
1. full-duplex mono (HSP)
2. uni-directional stereo (A2DP)
There's no such thing in the official Bluetooth spec as A2DP with a microphone back-channel, so anything that interfaces with a headset has to do a silly switch between stereo and mono modes, which is fine for a phone, but cumbersome on a computer. It's also a non-starter for some games: a lot of games on the Half-Life engine do in-game voice chat, but you still want stereo to hear directions of sounds.
The saving grace is that at least now with mSBC CODEC, your microphone doesn't sound like an early 90s GSM phone. That was a third gripe that thankfully is no longer.
Peeve #2, it seems mixing analogue and Bluetooth is a mortal sin. I'd love two things:
1. a little dongle that I can plug my WIRED headset into, that operates in full-duplex mode, and allows that headset to function as Bluetooth
2. a similar dongle that I can plug my non-Bluetooth-enabled radio/computer/whatever into, and interface it to a Bluetooth headset. (i.e. it presents a mock 16ohm speaker stereo audio input and a mock high-impedance microphone output to "look" like a wired headset)
(1) because sometimes you need a headset that is a particular form factor, which is easier to get in wired form… but you then want to connect it to something that talks Bluetooth.
(2) because I have things like two-way radios and computers that don't do Bluetooth, but it'd be handy to use with such a headset.
Maybe I'm just strange.
Using Bluetooth Host Mode to Scan TPMS Sensors – A Practical Approach!
I recently explored how the KT6368A Bluetooth chip (in host mode) can efficiently scan Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors, which operate in broadcast-only (non-connectable) mode.

@stman @vidak @50htz @theruran @forthy42 as for "protocol" I'd recommend to take a closer look at #IrDA since there are a shitton of cheap transcievers and implementations available and it would allow this to be reused for a secure P2P data exchange and secure contactless networking solution that is inherently harder (if not basically impossible) to eavesdrop on compared to #Bluetooth and #WiFi.
Not to mention I've not seen any IrDA devices >4MBit/s in the wild, with most being 9600bit/s #serial links fir the most part, and having a direct optical data exchange that takes literal seconds instead of minutes would really have a lot of good use cases i.e. in medical fields, where having a fully sterilizeable computer is kibda important and having a docking cradle with a charging coil and optical "port" would really be appreciated.
In fact ITU G.9991 (G.vlc) & IEEE 802.11bb are worth looking into as well just to see advantages and disadvantages...

What a PITA!!!!
#Win11 on the laptop that I use exclusively for streaming #AutoUpdated overnight & totally f*cked the laptop by disabling the existing #wfii connection which forced me to reset the laptop & to reinstall the apps & restore all of the websites that I use on it.
And I couldn't reconnect the #BlueTooth mouse that I was previously using with this laptop but was able to connect it to the other laptop that I use for everything else & moved the optical laptop from it to the one that got f*cked up.
Took me 2 hours to get this done. This is why I never update any software unless absolutely necessary.
I just prefer to leave well enough along but #MSFT sometimes still forces an update involuntarily which f*cks sh*t up, as it did last night for me.

The controller has terrible presets that are all "developer colors," or fading between a few colors. The way you pick a specific color that is not a pre-programmed one, is to put it in a rainbow mode, wait for the color you like to come up, hit "Lock" and hope you get the color you wanted.
