Maria de Lurdes Sá Teixeira, or affectionately Milú, was the first Portuguese female aviator in 1928. In a deeply conservative, patriarchal society, and in the midst of a dictatorship, she managed (at great cost) to overcome prejudices and win military tests intended for men.

Ok, so older project here, but I learned a TON from this. In particular, this project really made me realize how important lighting tones, color values, and details for photorealism in renders.
Previewing the image in white and black to focus on just the light/dark tones can really help with this!
Oh also - BlenderNation asked me to write an article about this project:

Does anyone know what this angled rod mounted to the underside of the upper aileron of a Waco biplane might be? I've seen it occasionally on other aircraft photos in the past, but I don't know what it's called or what it does. Admittedly, despite making art of fantasy airplanes, I'm not super familiar with how control surfaces linkages work on real aircraft. #aircraft #biplane #aviation

This was my uncle Vern Dallman's ranch and airstrip at the time he died (completing an emergency landing in one of his biplanes; he stayed with it to save the passenger) 24 years ago. Nice to see it's still being used the same way.

Dear friends of Real Life (#RL), :ablobcatbongokeyboard:

#Yesterday we had a day in the #unvirtualised #Gaia. Went as near as #possible to the #highest point in Greta Londinium (Greater London, as it is currently known). Near #Biggin #Hill in #Bromley. Visited Keston #Common to find the #source of the #Ravensbourne #river. A #legendary #spring discovered by #Pagan Emperor, Julius #Caesar. 🪶

Saw an old
#windmill, a pair of #raptors (probably #buzzards), #koi carp, #artist painting, #biplane ... Also briefly visited High #Elms #Country #Park, with its rich #history. ✔️

We went by
#hybrid car. 😮

Curtiss Model D Pusher, 1912 (replica). Glenn Curtiss was engaged, sometimes in a legal sense, in a fight with the Wright Brothers for dominance in the world of early aviation - Curtiss machines had ailerons, rather than the Wright-designed wing warping, for roll control. Although the Model D suffered, as did most of the early pusher designs, from higher drag due to the wide-spaced rear fuselage frame members, it was still a useful machine, performing both the first take-off from a vessel (Nov. 1910) and the first landing (Jan. 1911). This replica is of a 'headless pusher', so called by Curtiss because the earlier forward mounted canard control surfaces were omitted in this model #earlyaviation #biplane #GlennCurtiss #Curtiss #aeroplane #pusher #aircraft #navalaviation #USA #WrightBrothers #avgeek #aviationlovers #CurtissModelD #museum #replica
