Píobaireachd, "piping", also spelt pibroch (in Lowland Scots), is an art #Music that emerged during the 16th century. The music was likely older, originating from clàrsach ceòl mór, transferring to fiddle, to the Great Highland #Bagpipes, and then developing to match the technical abilities of the #Instrument. The overall format is basic slow theme plus ever-expanding variations, up to 20 at times, so píobaireachd pieces can be fairly lengthy.

I don't have anything new for #BandcampFriday, but if anyone is interested in my album of instrumental music, mainly fiddle tunes, played by celtic musicians Saskia Tomkins, Steafan Hannigan, here's the link:

There are also three books of fiddle tune sheet music on the merch page.

Some more #bagpipes
The bock or Bohemian #bagpipe includes various single-drone instruments from Czechia, Poland, Austria and southern Germany. It was first mentioned in the Zbraslav chronicle, written between 1335-1339. Its revival has mostly happened in Czechia, but it's gaining ground in Austria too. A typical bock is bellows-blown, allowing the piper to sing along, and features a drone 2 octaves below the chanter's root note.

I've been on the Fediverse since January 2017. I initially ran a single-user instance of Mastodon. In March 2020 I started to write Ktistec, my own implementation of an ActivityPub server in Crystal (a language with the ergonomics of Ruby but the speed of Go) because I wanted something more supportive of writing. This #introduction was written and published on Epiktistes, my Ktistec instance.

I'm an Engineer by training but now I run teams for companies in climate-tech.

I love #music, #sciencefiction and #fantasy literature (yes, I'm an R. A. Lafferty fan), attend fan conventions like #worldcon and #dragoncon, and do regular #weightlifting. I am also learning to play the #bagpipes, and I'm (re)learning #japanese.
