⭐ 💥 ⭐ Merging star clusters: For the first time, researchers have observed the fusion of star clusters in dwarf galaxies — a discovery made by chance through observations from the #Hubble space telescope.

Recent post on astrobites.org about a paper led by a PhD student from our institute.

The Black Hole Tango: Kicks and Spins in Hierarchical Mergers

“The room is large and densely packed. As you twirl across the floor, someone extends their hand, inviting you to dance. The two of you spin around each other, the tension building with every step. As you draw closer and closer, you realize this isn’t a ballroom, and you’re not people. This is outer space, and you and your partner are black holes, spiraling toward one another in one of the most energetic events in the universe: a black hole merger. (…)”

@TillSawala fuck #astrophysics! We need contracts for Billionaires and glory for the beloved leader.

what glory one can take from a space telescope? You need flags on other planets. That's the only thing that counts. Well not the only thing... returning minerals from mining operations would bring even more glory. Maybe for the leaders son.

If #NASA's next great space telescope was named after some male bureaucrat rather than after Nancy Grace #Roman, the outstanding astronomer AND trailblazer for women in astronomy, would it now be sabotaged so close to launch?

Unfortunately, one has to wonder out loud. And unfortunately, if they really manage to kill off NASA's #astrophysics division, the damage to science won't be repared in decades.
