Sea ice decline in the Chukchi Sea slowed this past week though there is still more open water than last year at this point in the season. Sea surface temperatures (ºC) for the week ending July 10 were near to above the 1991-2020 baseline in most of the non-sea ice impacted areas around Alaska, with the exception of the southeast Bering Sea. There is little to no temperature trend over the Central #Arctic in summer due to basic heat flux exchanges from melting ice. However, adjacent areas show long-term warming in July.

We finished the cabin at Sinaasiurvik, Sirmilik National Park in half the time. And flew out a week early. Myself and one of the bear monitors were the last to leave. Just after the second last flight left the weather went down, low ceiling, wind, rain and fog. We thought we would be stuck there for a while. But it cleared enough for it to come and get us. #Nunavut #Arctic #ParksCanada.

Trends in July #Arctic sea ice concentration are more extensive and begin to surround the central Arctic, including areas like the Beaufort, Chukchi, East Siberian, Laptev, Kara, Barents Seas.
