Detroit_yeet 🔥🏭🔥🚫🔪🐴
How to archive tweets in 2023, now that Elon's messed with the API

1. Replace "twitter.com" in the link to the tweet with "nitter.net". Nitter is a Twitter "frontend" that crawls tweets for you. No sign-in required and it lets you see replies and the whole thread.

2. Submit this Nitter link to the Wayback Machine at archive.org

3. (Optional) Paste the link to the archive.org page into archive.ph. You might want to do this because archive.ph loads pages faster than archive.org for a variety of reasons (no audio/video archiving and no automated archiving, so less server stress, plus it's less well-known)

To demonstrate this, here are four archives of an Elon Musk tweet:

Direct twitter.com link archived on archive.ph: https://archive.li/LT8r6 (Neither of the tweets he's replying to are shown and neither are any replies to his tweet, because of massive API limits on non-signed-in accounts. This is basically useless for internet historians, because even if you individually save every tweet he's replying to and every tweet replying to him, there's no way to prove they're all related)

Direct twitter.com link archived on archive.org: https://web.archive.org/web/20231115223252/https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1724908287471272299 (Nothing is there, just a "something went wrong" screen, because of API limits. Worse than the above archive)

Nitter.net link archived on archive.org: https://web.archive.org/web/20231115221205/https://nitter.net/elonmusk/status/1724908287471272299 (Everything is there, but the page loads slowly on some devices and the link is quite long, which isn't great for certain purposes)

Archive of the above link, saved on archive.ph: https://archive.li/G39Mz (Everything is there, it loads quickly, and the link is short.
