RationalWiki<p>Colloidal silver is a suspension of microscopic particles of silver, usually in water, that has gained an undeserved reputation as a cure-all with claims that it is a natural broad-spectrum antibiotic, antifungal, &amp; antiviral agent, &amp; as a nonspecific "immune system booster". There are also claims that it is able to treat serious diseases such as AIDS, Lyme, etc.— which are all groundless woo. Colloidal silver is used topically by applying with a dropper to the skin (for example, as an antiseptic on cuts), or taken internally. There is no empirical evidence that it is effective at all when taken internally for anything except making you look like a Smurf. The US CFR prohibits vendors from claiming any health benefit from colloidal silver or silver salt-based products. The medical consensus is that colloidal silver, despite being readily available as a "health supplement", is dangerous &amp; provides no health benefits.</p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/RationalWiki" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RationalWiki</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/colloidalsilver" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>colloidalsilver</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/altmed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>altmed</span></a> <br><a href="https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Colloidal_silver" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">rationalwiki.org/wiki/Colloida</span><span class="invisible">l_silver</span></a></p>
RationalWiki<p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Chelation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Chelation</span></a> therapy is either 1) a legitimate medical treatment for diagnosed heavy metal poisoning, or 2) a pseudoscientific practice whereby certain substances (usually <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/EDTA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EDTA</span></a> or deferoxamine) are administered to a patient to "clear them of toxins".</p><p>In chemistry, "coordination" is the formation of a relatively weak bond between a metal ion and another substance called a "ligand" to form a "coordination complex". "Chelation" is a type of coordination where the ligand has multiple sites ("teeth") with which to bind to the metal, which makes the complex significantly more stable. A commonly encountered chelating agent is citric acid, which is a useful rust remover owing to its ability to chelate to iron. Chelation therapy is medically useful in heavy metal poisoning when the coordination complex is less toxic or more easily eliminated than the metal itself. …</p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/rationalwiki" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rationalwiki</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/chelationtherapy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>chelationtherapy</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/alternativemedicine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>alternativemedicine</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/altmed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>altmed</span></a> <br><a href="https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Chelation_therapy" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">rationalwiki.org/wiki/Chelatio</span><span class="invisible">n_therapy</span></a></p>

FrankVerhoft<p>In het tweede, ernstigere deel ontleedt Mark Twain de organisatie van de schier ongeletterde maar zeer gehaaide Baker Eddy.</p><p>Twain geeft een blauwdruk voor een succesvolle sekte of kerk, gebaseerd op Eddy’s handelswijze en op haar boek 'Manual of the Mother Church'.</p><p>Het zou me dan ook niet verbazen mochten de meeste al dan niet christelijk geïnspireerde preachers&nbsp;en sekteleiders eerder Eddy's handleiding hebben gelezen dan haar spirituele werken /3<br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ChristianScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ChristianScience</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Altmed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Altmed</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ReligiousScams" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ReligiousScams</span></a></p>
FrankVerhoft<p>Mark Twain bundelde zijn striemende teksten over Christian Science in&nbsp;1907, in de periode dat Baker Eddy's kerk een steile opgang aan het maken was.</p><p>Het eerste deel is een bijna slapstickachtige beschrijving van een (fictieve) ontmoeting met een steeds warriger bazelende Christian Science-healer.</p><p>Mark Twain sloeg begin 20ste eeuw al de nagel op de kop: "they all do their miracles with the same old, powerful instrument — the patient’s imagination". /2<br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ChristianScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ChristianScience</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/MarkTwain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MarkTwain</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Altmed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Altmed</span></a></p>
FrankVerhoft<p>In 1875 publiceerde Mary Baker Eddy haar boek&nbsp;'Science and Health'&nbsp;(in latere edities 'Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures').
