One of the founders of a life-saving organization, Alcoholics Anonymous, was a Dorset native. In recent times, some degree of mirth was produced when his childhood home was crashed into by a drunk driver. Simeon Pease Cheney (1818-1890), a singer in the musical Cheney Family of Vermont, settled in Dorset.
