It's good to know that they're censoring but few entries that you are monitoring.

"Sparsly happening" does not look like a good argument we should be adopting, though. It's mostly used on the censoring side, for appeasement.

There are two fields where this censoring might become harmful, in the very near future:

1) Upcoming #ChatControl – officially to prevent access to infrastructure used by messengers that won't "comply".

2) Upcoming #AgeVerification – officially to prevent access to #VPN servers used to "bypass" it.

Both will produce threats that I would not want to take lightly. Wait-and-see is not my favorite approach here.

Teens are locked out of parts of the Internet by the age gate that the UK Online Safety Act has imposed 🚧

Don't believe the hype: it goes way beyond the headlines of porn.

From health advice to memes, sites are over-moderating content or completely blocking under 18s to avoid the duties imposed by the Act.

ORG's Sara Chitseko and @JamesBaker explain it all.

"If you've read about the sudden appearance of age verification across the internet in the UK and thought it would never happen in the U.S., take note: many politicians want the same or even more strict laws. As of July 1st, South Dakota and Wyoming enacted laws requiring any website that hosts any sexual content to implement age verification measures. That includes social media networks like X, Reddit, and Discord; online retailers like Amazon and Barnes & Noble; and streaming platforms like Netflix and Rumble—essentially, any site that allows user-generated or published content without gatekeeping access based on age"

Safe kids or privacy?!

That line shuts mouths. It turns every room into a suspect.

I think of a kid who needs a 2 a.m. chat. A friend planning a way out. Someone healing at their own pace. They need doors that close.

Blanket checks are not care. A net at the door teaches silence.

We can protect kids without tearing the doors off the hinges.

Care and privacy come together.
