Bad weather up high today so we went exploring instead and just 20 mins drive from home, we found this amazing valley. A "Shangri-La" sort of place ... peaceful, quiet and colorful. Never been here before nor knew of it's existence.
The day didn't quite turn out as planned but that's the detail for a later post. And, I guess that's the whole point of exploring?
Just zooming (8'50" per km) on today's 14.6km/9.0mi walk. 15C/59F and a lightly moderate 106 BPM (71%).
13 out of 14 under 9', that chicane gets me every time.

Getting busier on the patch
The weather has been mixed today after the spell of great, sunny days but it was expected and it's not raining ..... yet. That said, we could do with some rain, maybe a downpour from midnight to 05:00? Anyway, I grabbed my camera and binoculars and headed out for a wander, then turned back and grabbed a fleece! Yoda had a great time yesterday on a walk with us. Usually we leave him at home for our long hikes but yesterday we went for a stroll around Burley rather than a hike, with lots of stops so he could rest. He even liked the car ride, which he is normally stressed about.

It was a beautiful Autumn Sunday for a walk in the Āwhitu Regional Park
The little island is Kauritutahi Island. The spiky thing on the horizon to the left of Kauritutahi Island is Auckland's Skytower. Distance to there: 25km as the seagull flies, or 95km by road.

After a heavy rain, the area transformed into a huge puddle that looked impassable without wading
But someone had placed stepping stones, so we could cross easily
Only some people seemed to have went further, so we had a nice and quiet time
For today's walk, which was 1.4km/8.9mi, it was 19C/67F. A relatively speedy 8'55" per km, and a heartbeat that barely made it into the moderate exercise zone at 105 BPM (70%).
There is some weirdness involved with the new shoes. More details as they become available.

It was a warm afternoon. I had my fly rod with me, but I didn’t fish much, just enjoyed some quality time with my family by the river
Nice walk with my son today. We did part of a pilgrim route which started at the Winchester Cathedral where we attended part of the service. We were surprised by heavy rain but had luckily just sought shelter in a church. We continued after the rain and had a lovely dry rest of the walk. Managed to do about 18.5km so not too shabby.

My neighbourhood's peace is frequently shattered by the yapping and squabbling of cooped-up dogs. Until I dig a bit deeper, it sounds like neglect and disregard.
Recently I discovered some posters by the Cinnamon Trust (https://cinnamon.org.uk/), encouraging volunteers to step up to walk local dogs that don't get out enough.
So I wondered about connecting these two phenomena.

Today's Walk news involves 14.4km/8.9mi that averaged 9'15" per km. The old heart was barely engaged in moderate exercise at 105 BPM (70%). All this excitement was happening in 6C/43F.
It was nice. That pretty much covers it.
