Yesterday on the Pennine Way, myself, another volunteer and Adam from North Pennines National Landscape repaired a stile, cleared a blocked culvert, rearranged a stone drain across the path and cut out some fabric from the path that was a trip hazard.

This is opposite the quarry above High Force. Didn't need 3 people but we were all needed to carry tools and materials as only way to this point is on foot from High Force Hotel. Hot and tiring.

On a hot sunny day, two men are working to repair a stile in a fence. One is shirtless and looks on while the other saws a piece of timber to size to make a step. Pieces of timber and tools lying around. In background, land rises up from the river Tees, with a small waterfall among scrubby trees.

Yesterday at Shildon Engine House, a drone was used to capture dozens of images to be used to make a photogrammetry image of the site.

I also took some photos of damage and assessed the condition of the site. Worst thing for me was previous infill 'repair' using brick. Why? It's not like there isn't any stone lying about.

Built by Cornish miners and housed a Cornish beam engine that moved up and down in the tall opening to drain a lead mine.

It's a busy week this week. Yesterday was a blood test for cholesterol level.

Today it's Land of Lead and Silver visit to Shildon Engine House to assess it's condition. So that will be looking at an old wreck by.... you get the picture.

Tomorrow it's footpath maintenance for N Pennines National Landscape on the Pennine Way and I could maybe walk there as its close but probably won't.

Thursday Shopping.

Friday to Darlington for pre op assessment of my tiny patch of skin cancer.

Blowing my own trumpet time. I feature in Nenthead Mines Conservation Society newsletter in a couple of articles. This one about one of the repairs to a dry stone wall in the river Nent.

There's another one with me underground doing basic labouring after the skilled engineering volunteers had carried out work to shore up a section of roof. I might post it later but I'm short of time as I'm off there again soon today.

Gary and Pete had a go at starting to rebuild the wall and then we were distracted by other tasks. Ivor joined NMCS in 2024 and in April this year he completed the rebuild of the wall.
