EDIT: NVM about 2nd article; it's paywalled & I can't share it.

So...
I've been reading and discussing this article with some friends. It's a little bit beyond me, but is fascinating nonetheless.

Regarding the "Skye Blue Cafe Wall Illusion," one friend said, "if you squint your eyes enough to ‘fuzz out’ the small high-frequency details you perceive the horizontalness of the blue lines."

I can squint all you want, but I can't make those lines look parallel.

Today, for about the fourth time, I had a scintilla in my vision. It's like when you look at a bright light, and then have an after-image, only it doesn't go away as quickly, and it glows and sort of sparkles for about 15 minutes or so. For most people, it's the start of a migraine, but I'm extremely grateful that mine have so far resolved without that. The 2nd picture on this page is exactly how it looks. Weird how it looks so similar for everyone. #vision #justchatting

3/ Paul pissed now.

When I was at the eye doctor, I asked them to include my PD, which is Pupillary Distance, the distance between the centers of your pupils and is used to center a prescription lens accurately in the frame, on my prescription..

Because I don't get overpriced glasses from them, and just go for my prescription and other medical eye treatment, they now charge $10 to include the PD on the prescription because a lot of people are buying the frames and lenses online or elsewhere at reasonable prices

This has pissed me off so much that I am going to start advocating for a change in the law that they must include the PD on vision glass prescriptions.

I told another person this, and they said their provider, who is different, charges for the PD also.

"Molecular gradients shape synaptic specificity of a visuomotor transformation", by Dombrovski et al. 2025
nature.com/articles/s41586-025

"LPLC2 neurons sampling different regions of visual space exhibit graded expression of cell recognition molecules matching these synaptic gradients. [...] these molecular gradients act instructively to determine synapse number"

Anatomy was never going to be enough when there are more than one neuron of the same type.
