I got the thick, blown glass vase for free, from the side of a road, a few years ago. It was & still is in perfect condition. I'm a frugal/freebies hunter

Busy, productive weekend Many food crops were transplanted. An acre of beds were prepped for more crops to be transplanted.
A rough-skinned newt (Taricha granulosa) spotted by a client on a private photo tour a couple of years ago. We both ended up lying on the muddy ground to get photos at eye level.

It seems to have only taken one semester in a high school outdoors class for our boy to get into backcountry hiking in a big way, solo.
He's off on a trek not far from home, but still plenty in the wilderness!
Lots of supplies for his overnight stay.
He has my trusty nearly 20 year old Garmin GPSMap 60csx (https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/310/). It is such an excellent and reliable device! I always keep it hanging in the coat rack at the door. I invariably go searching for it amongst the jackets when we're on an adventure and when I find it, it never fails to turn on as if it was last used yesterday.
It doesn't have the two-way communication of modern devices but it won't fail in providing him his location and a track to follow if trail markers fail him, plus a recording of where he's been.
I forgot how fun the Garmin BaseCamp tool is for planning trips!
NGL: a little jealous to not be alongside, but also proud he's confident and capable to strike off into the wilds.
When the supply chain fails. If snails prosper, so do hermits. When snails are scarce, hermits wear tatters. These 3 young Grainy-Hands in a shell desert yesterday, have to make do with what's available. #VancouverIsland #HermitCrabs #IntertidalInvertebrates #Invertebrates #MarineLife #DailyHermit

Dude. Take the water taxi, or a canoe, to the Della Falls trailhead rather than your Chevy Cavalier on a *deactivated* logging road to bushwhack a couple miles to the trail.

Met at low tide today. Life in the intertidal is challenging; nothing stays put. Water comes, goes. Storms tear away your sheltering stones and seaweeds. Sun burns, wind dries. Predators switch from fish and sea stars to gulls and raccoons. Gotta stay alert! #VancouverIsland #HermitCrabs #IntertidalInvertebrates #Invertebrates #MarineLife #DailyHermit

I spent the last two days updating my website with new texts, photos and a refreshed layout. Feel free to take a look: https://www.catherinebabault.com/
Starting tomorrow, I am giving 3 consecutive multiday photo workshops to guests from the UK, US and Canada. I look forward to meeting them all. The weather forecast looks great and my itineraries are ready.
Time to rest for a couple of hours.
#QueenAnnesLace is distinguishable from many lookalikes in same plant family, by a single purple floret in the center.
