Jim Jones<p>28, scariest <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpg</span></a> I have played?</p><p>As strange as it may sound, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/TheWarren" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TheWarren</span></a> from <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://dice.camp/@bullypulpit_hq" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>bullypulpit_hq</span></a></span> and <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://dice.camp/@mease19" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>mease19</span></a></span> is the scariest game I have run/played. During our initial session I polled the table for details about their warren, my youngest daughter offered up a sickly fox with a wasting disease that was voraciously hungry who constantly stalked the edges of the their Warren. She named it Creeper.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/RPGADay2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RPGADay2023</span></a></p>
Jim Jones<p>12, the oldest game that I still play?</p><p>I don't really play old games anymore. I took a long hiatus from <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/RPGs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RPGs</span></a> after being steeped in them in middle &amp; high school years. I picked up <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Hackmaster" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Hackmaster</span></a> Basic just to read at the 2009 or 2010 <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GenCon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GenCon</span></a> where it came out.</p><p>Later I read <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DungeonWorld" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DungeonWorld</span></a> &amp; <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Inspectres" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Inspectres</span></a>, &amp; started running <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/TheWarren" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TheWarren</span></a> for my kids.</p><p>The closest I come to old games are new editions of them like <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DnD5e" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DnD5e</span></a> or <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/CyberpunkRed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CyberpunkRed</span></a> or games inspired by them like <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Cairn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cairn</span></a>.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/RPGADay2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RPGADay2023</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpg</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/rpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rpg</span></a></p>
Jim Jones<p>Smartest <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ttrpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ttrpg</span></a> I have played?</p><p>I have played a bunch of smart <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/RPGs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RPGs</span></a>, but three of my favorites are:</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://dice.camp/@mease19" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>mease19</span></a></span>'s <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/TheWarren" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TheWarren</span></a> distilled <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/PBtA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PBtA</span></a> down to just what was needed to tell the very specific terrifying story of wild rabbits trying to survive in the wild.</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://dice.camp/@epidiah" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>Epidiah</span></a></span>'s <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Dread" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Dread</span></a> is unbeaten in telling a tense story. Using a Jenga tower as the tension/resolution mechanic is genius.</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://dice.camp/@jmstar" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>jmstar</span></a></span>'s <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GhostCourt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GhostCourt</span></a> is a comedy game that actually works as a comedy &amp; is funny. It's brilliant.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/RPGADay2023" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RPGADay2023</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/rpg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rpg</span></a></p>
Matt<p>“All the world will be your enemy, Prince of a Thousand Enemies. And when they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you; digger, listener, runner, Prince with the swift warning. Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed.”</p><p>Richard Adams, Watership Down</p><p><a href="https://dice.camp/tags/thewarren" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>thewarren</span></a> <a href="https://dice.camp/tags/tabletop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tabletop</span></a></p>
Jim Jones<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://dice.camp/@ChaskaTheMagicDog" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>ChaskaTheMagicDog</span></a></span> I don't know about scaring them necessarily, but <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Vaesen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Vaesen</span></a> has definitely given my players creepy vibes.</p><p>While it wouldn't seem that way, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/TheWarren" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TheWarren</span></a> by @mease19 (the game about playing rabbits), has really scared my players while playing. The characters are so vulnerable to the world that survival is difficult and terror is around each corner.</p>
