Der Jahresbericht 2024 gibt Einblick in eine ganze Reihe von Mechanismen, die zusammenwirken müssen, damit TA-SWISS die Relevanz und Breite der aufgegriffenen Themen sowie die Qualität und die analytische Tiefe ihrer Studien gewährleisten kann. 2024 ist uns dies nicht schlecht gelungen: Gleich vier bedeutende Studien konnte TA-SWISS publizieren und fünf weitere vorantreiben oder in Angriff nehmen.
Building the future: Toward a sustainable material transition in architecture and construction 
Today, material consumption in the construction sector is responsible for 50% of EU-wide resource consumption.
Against this backdrop, our current Special topic, edited by Cordula Kropp and Simon Aicher, examines the research and use of sustainable building materials.

Der Wald als Kohlenstoffsenke
Bäume wandeln atmosphärisches #CO2 mittels #Photosynthese in #Biomasse um und speichern den #Kohlenstoff im Holz. In einem gesunden #Wald bleibt dieser zunächst einige Jahrzehnte in den Bäumen gespeichert. Gezielt geerntetes Holz wird über mehrere Etappen (#Kaskadennutzung) effizient genutzt. Erst am Ende der Nutzungsdauer wird das Holz verbrannt und das CO2 abgeschieden.

Die Schweiz will bis 2050 CO2-neutral werden. Dafür braucht es Technologien, die #CO2 aus der Luft entfernen und dauerhaft speichern. Die fünf wichtigsten präsentiert TA-SWISS in einer #Sommerserie.
Wird der Atmosphäre CO2 entzogen und langfristig gespeichert, werden damit bereits verursachte Emissionen rückgängig gemacht. Diese Methoden und Verfahren werden deshalb auch als #Negativemissionstechnologien bezeichnet.
