@InsurgoFormica
It was right? I was a bit sceptical at the start, thinking, here we go with the #conspiracy theories again, but as it went on and events were being stitched together, it was more like #investigativejournalism. You know, the kind of reporting that’s not done!

Anyways, I found if interesting. Lots to mull over and think about. Makes me wonder it the solution is to kill the #LNP, let the #Teals rebuild a ‘liberal’ Party (call it something else) and get bipartisan support to clamp down on #CorporateMedia outlets and the #extractiveindustries .

Dreaming, right?

Australia’s key ally has gone rogue – and Trump has us expertly wedged. We need a plan B

Zoe Daniel is a "Teal Independent" who made history by beating former Federal Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg, to become the Federal Member for Goldstein. He couldn't read the room; she can. Zoe Daniel also has extensive experience as a foreign correspondent for the ABC. I think that combination of considering local and global matters gives her excellent insights.

Zoe Daniel's insights in this article are well worth your time, in my opinion. She deftly shows the interrelationships between Trump, Trumpism, Peter Dutton, and Dutton's mindless mimicry of Trump when he talks about DOGE and DEI. Zoe Daniel wants you to think about our values and history, and the regional implications for ANZUS, AUKUS, Five Eyes, NATO's slow and rudimentary action to help defend Ukraine from Russia, and more.

The #Albanese government might be likened to the harried house-husband struggling with untidy rooms, dog hairs on the carpet, and piles of clothes in or waiting for the washing machine.

All this, with a property inspection looming that threatens a forced move into less salubrious accommodation.

With less than a year to go until the latest date for an election, the government is looking overwhelmed by its list of "still to do" and "issues outstanding" items. Starting things is always easier than completing them. Obstacles and distractions turn up.

The two major parties don’t have the will to make significant structural changes to policies causing major upheaval in our society. They won’t do it because it will upset lobby groups, vested interests and the corporate far right media. This of course translates into votes given they are constantly in election mode.

There are three things Australia desperately needs to do in my opinion:

1. Abolish negative gearing on residential housing
2. Increase capital gains tax on investment properties - not the family home
3. Re-introduce a carbon price
These three things would dramatically improve the quality of life and prospects for millions of Australians, especially the youth of the country.
It would get people off the streets, out of cars, out of tents and caravan parks, and it would drive steep investment in a low carbon future - all these things would be a massive boost to the Australian economy

I’ve been holding back on this, but can’t anymore.
It appears Peter Dutton has made his battle lines for the next election and it’s based on the premise that voters care more about the cost-of-living that they do about the climate crisis.
To begin with the LNP have ‘no’ credible policies on either.
Their energy policy is based future nuclear power plants but years ahead on the distant horizon with the need to build more coal fired plants to get us to there - no renewables. I can’t describe how dumb and destructive that idea is. Not only will it result in very expensive electricity for everyone - households and business, it will drive up the CoL, inflation, emissions, environmental destruction, pollution and require billions more in taxpayer subsidies.
Now we have them as the party going to lower the CoL - but the problem is the coalition has ‘no’ credible policies on this - they have no answers. Can you imagine the LNP making large corporations reduce their profits, or make fossil fuel companies pay their fair share; as an eg.
They have always claimed they are better stewards of the economy; but what we are getting from Dutton is disastrous for the economy.
They had 10 years in office until 2022 and left behind a trail of destruction - now they are offering worse.
No - Peter Dutton’s campaign strategy is totally negative and will blame everything on his opponents in an attempt to do a Donald Trump play by enraging one group of citizens against the govt of the day - ‘but’ like the Republicans - have zero policies

ABC News · It's not been easy to be a teal of late, but Dutton's climate gamble may have given them a new startBy Brett Worthington

"Most of the teals have never voted Liberal in their life … these people are Greens. And if people vote for teals [at] next election, they’re voting ultimately for a minority government and a minority government is a bad thing for this state and for our country." - Potato #Dutton

The dishonesty here is galling. Teals are Greens voters? How would you know? Minority government is bad for the country? Or is it just bad for you as a dinosaur of a dying political dichotomy?

Why would anyone vote for Ol' Spud? The voters of Dickson are a perplexing bunch. Is there no alternative that would represent your electorate better? Maybe an #independent?

After Candid Self-Reflection, Liberal Strategists Say Best Person to Replace Rejected Kooyong MP Josh Frydenberg Is … Josh Frydenberg

Another kerb-kicker from @theshovel.

In all seriousness, this it a trial-balloon being sent-up to test people's opinions. This kerfuffle shows how divided the Liberal Party are. Factional infighting presents party members with two choices:
- Sexist, racist, old-boys-club, RWNJ wing.
- Old-school Conservative, generational privilege wing.

Those calling for Josh Frydenberg to replace Amelia Hamer as the Liberal candidate for Kooyong think it's okay to break their own party's preselection process, and are harkening-back to the "Good ol' days" of Scott Morrison. They've forgotten that Josh Frydenberg was one of the worst Federal Treasurers in living memory under the leadership of ScottyFromMarketing.

Those calling for Amelia Hamer haven't heard her say a word about policy, but they like her posh Oxford-educated credentials and good family-name. She gets to ride on the coat-tails of her grandfather, Rupert Hamer, the Premier of Victoria from 1972 to 1981.

Neither group is in touch with reality. Dr Monique Ryan won the seat of Kooyong in 2022 with a 2.9 per cent margin. The seat of Kooyong has been considered a safe Liberal seat for generations. It's why it's given to people in important roles such as Treasurer. Monique Ryan beat Josh Frydenberg because he's a fucking idiot and nobody liked his bootlicking of ScottyFromMarketing.
